rejections 2009

Congrats to your D, IMHopeful!

Thanks NMR -- Do you (or anyone) know much about the IWU Acting program? My D really liked the school and the people when she visited. She went last summer for a general visit, and then went again for the audition. It appears as if they bring in a pretty small class of actors and MT. So far, she has IWU, Point Park, and USC BA to choose from . . . all very different I am thinking. Rejected from Minnesota, Evansville, Otterbein and Purchase. But is still waiting to hear from several schools.

My D opened the thick envelope and did get into the USC BFA program in Acting. Whew!

It is also my understanding from meeting with the USC theatre dept last year that you cannot minor in anything if you are in the BFA program. My D was just accepted to the BA and if she attends plans to audition for the MT minor. However, she has also just been accepted to a full MT program and is waiting on a couple of others. If anyone has good info on the USC program (particularly BA w/ MT minor), please share!

StageMom1223 and weluvtheatre. When did you get your envelopes. I am still waiting to hear. I applied for both BFA and BA at USC.

The envelope arrived on March 16, the letter was dated March 9. D only applied for the BFA, not the BA.

My D received hers yesterday (3/21). Her application status was updated on 3/19 if that means anything.

rejected CalArts acting. it was my top school

Not an outright rejection, but, Waitlisted at University of Minnesota Guthrie. Does anyone know how many Waitlists they have at Guthrie?

stagemom1223 and weluvtheatre:
Thanks for the information on your dates of receipt. I am still waiting! I feel like camping at the mailbox but I have to go to school everyday. My Mom and Dad have made great friends with the mailman. HA HA

Hi StageMom! I've never replied to a specific post so don't know if I'm doing it correctly! I'm new to C. Conf. My D also applied/auditioned for USC Theatre (BFA Acting) and has not heard anything. I'm thinking this is not good...... particularly after seeing that your letter was dated Mar 9. I haven't read all of the posts but am wondering if you know whether or not the acceptance/rejection letters come in waves or do you think this is it? I hope you don't mind my asking all of this BUT....where and when did she audition? Did she feel that her audition went really well? Was she called back? (I asked someone else these same questions on another thread - now I'm wondering if it was you! If so, sorry - like I said, I've only participated in these discussions a few times!) Anything you can tell me that will help me face reality and/or encourage me will help!!! Thanks!

I have known numerous people to get off the waitlist at the guthrie program! I am not sure how many they have on it.... But for example... I know one girl who was waitlisted until July! It was the only school she had then been admitted too and changed her whole college plans in JULY! AND now she is said to be the strongest actor in her class... weird how this all works... huh? haha

Hi bettylouchandler:

Regarding USC BFA Acting ( I also applied for the BA )

I auditioned on Feb 13 and also at Las Vegas Performing Arts Auditions, in November. I got called back with only 4 other people in Las Vegas and they asked me to apply. I spent 45 minutes with them at the Las Vegas callback too. I talked to my admissions counselor on 3/11 only because LA AMDA was asking me to make a deposit of tuition by 3/20 and he said I am still in review and my last application status update was on 3/10. Also one that same day they said a bunch of letters went on on that Monday, 3/9, so maybe they do go in waves. Hope this helps you, I still have not heard either. I have been looking at lots of threads and I have only seen 1 BFA acceptance and 2 BA acceptances everywhere I have looked and all pretty recent, like this week. I also haven't seen any rejections yet. Let me know if you hear anything and I will let you know too. I thought the Las Vegas audition was great but the one in L.A. seemed so short!

bettylou -- my D auditioned in Feb. at the Chicago Unifieds. Yes, her audition did go very well, but there were no callbacks at this audition venue. I don't know if the acceptances go out in waves, but I do know of two others who were offered the BFA at the same time as my D. I also know of two others who were rejected from the BFA, but were accepted to the BA program. Those letters did not go out at the same time as the BFA offers. One was the middle of last week, and one was today. So, maybe that's the mail makinmg the timing different. That's not really evidence of much, but that's what I know. It's just agony not knowing, I really feel for you.

You might want to check your application status; my D's was updated 3/17 and again on 3/19. On the 19th they added a link to all application documents or something like that. We had read on the regular USC thread that you should be able to log onto "Explore USC" as an accepted student if you have a status update (although there have been exceptions to this, in fact, some reported they had their acceptance packet in hand and still couldn't log on!) You use the ID # you were issued with your application and your last name. She couldn't on the 17th but then could on the 19th. So we were pretty sure the packet was coming which it did on the 21st. But we didn't tell anyone she was accepted until it actually came! So don't know if that helps or hurts, but there it is.

NYQ12, Thanks for the Guthrie W/L info. I think I read of someone last year on CC getting in on the W/L, too, so it's nice to know that it does happen!

Last year, my D was accepted to Minnesota/Guthrie and chose not to attend (though she loves the program and was thrilled to be admitted) so I know at least one student got off the waitlist.

D was rejected from George Washington University after feeling really good about it, now waiting on BC and BU.

Any rejections received from USC yet?

I auditioned at the unified in Chicago as well for USC BFA and still have not heard anything! :( I will check my status on my USC admissions account or whatever.
