hey highschool doc, did u get to the final round of interviews for wayne state and MedStart. Just to let you kno 150 hrs of volunteering is nothing man....people have hit up to 500 soo just cuase u got over a 100 wont make u differnt at all

Wo man back offf.....

I never said I had that many, I've seen kids with like 2000+. so 150 is really nothing at all. I was just responding to the person who said I didnt have any clinical experience.

Quality not quanitiy is what matters though. You can easily write down that you had 3000 hours of volunteering at a hospital, no one will ever check or know. Or you can write down the experiences you had at 50 to 150 hours (which is the truth) and how those experience changed you.

Bottom line is that applications to med programs went WAY UP. I wasnt what the medical schools wanted, or maybe I was lacking in test scores or some other factor, so they rejected me which is okay, Ill just pursue the normal track and try 2 get in that way. Im no where near a top applicant for most medical programs, and after talking too many many kids who applied I know realize that. If anything this experience has made me much more aware of the intense competition for medical admissions.
So if you are a junior I advise that your drop the arrogant attitude and stop shooting of ignorant comments at people about "lacking" something, cause in reality none of us on CC truly know what an applicant is lacking.

Yes, I got the final round of interviews for Wayne State MedStart.

Anyways good luck to you in college admissions.

i think u took my message the wrong way man i was just telling u that 150 hrs isnt that much and yea quality is better then quality but u gotta just relax man. I wasnt trying to take a stab at you or nothing. I kno this is a tough road and competition is hard. But stats arnt everything you just have to know how to play the game thats all. Anyways im sorry if u took it the wrong way i was just letting u kno that these programs like a lot of hrs just becuase its standard, 200-400 hrs is standard for many ppl that apply. Im not saying that u didnt get any less quality ur experiences might have been great.

How was ur final interview for MedStart.

Good luck with the regular process buddy

I dont know about the 200-400 standard man.

One of my friends had about 80-90 and hes was in Northwestern HPME.
My brother had about 90 and hes in MSU Med Scholars...he also got into GW 7 yr .
Another person I kno had about 150 and she's in GWU seven year.

So i highly doubt that it was quanity of volunteer hours. Each school looks for something specific, and it varies from year to year.

My cousin had a 30 aCT, 100 hours volunteer, and a 3.6 GPA. Yet he got in2 MSU Med scholars.

So there really is no Set, you must do this this and this to get in2 a BA/MD. Its really kinda random. I wasnt truly angry and I sincerely apologize if I came off as that way, Im just tired of people claiming they "know" how to get in, or why other people didnt get in. I used to be one of those kids, and now I realize that admissions are very "weird" especially when the pool for these programs are so small. If you are a junior my advice is to try your best but apply to some GOOD back up schools because you could be Albert Einstein and a BA/MD may very well reject you.

If your senior where else did u apply?

yea im a senior, i applied to rochester, brown, case, wayne state, gw, rice and rpi

most kids ive met soo far at interviews had 200-400 hrs

I probably have no room to talk since I have a waitlist under my belt from a "match" school, but from my observations:

Applicant has STELLER stats and some nice awards and LOTS of involvement. I'm surprised of the outcome of this applications! But....just from my observation, he seems to be all over the board with his ECs -- a little bit of everything a little disjointed, maybe? Although of course it is hard to tell the depth of his involvement from merely a post.
