rejects...mourn here....

hmm

jeanatkin - can we still land up at the same place ?

9 rejections....4 waitlisteds....2 acceptances with no aid ( which is worse than waitlisted always ) and awaiting the bates rejection......
wow.....hey at least we know we are not alone in this....

and sorry about the pton rishabh...

Although I haven't been waitlisted anywhere, I think many people will be accepted through the waitlist. The fact is that the no of applicants rose not because MORE people want to go to college, but because it has become easier to apply and people nowadays apply to as many as 15. That means that colleges might not get the yield they were expecting because accepted students now have much more choices... What do you think?

i'm sorry rishabh and melissarahman... hope your waitlists work out in the end! (i hope mine too :p)

anw, i agree with u waleedk87. but the effect (not getting the desired yield) will probably be inversely proportional to the school's prestige. such that at high end schs like HYP and Amherst/Williams, their yield will be affected only minimally. to give a scenario, say ppl in the past apply to princeton and 5 other schs. now they apply to princeton and 15 other schs. ultimately, most will still choose princeton and reject the rest... so the additional 10 schs suffer in yield, rather than princeton...

fr sum reason...LACs don like me..rejected by swarthmore, bucknell n juss got bowdoins waitlist lettr...they told me i had given a THOUGHTFUL N IMPRESSIVE application..i emailed em n thanked them fr keepin me on the waitlist..thanks but no thanks...oooh n mentioned the scholarship from Duke..also that it was my....ahem FIRST CHOICE....hehehe god it feels soo friggin good to write that....sigh....

Aren't you Alia under the alias Alu; you talk so much like her. Well, you have done a great job and congrats. I am going to Berea College this fall as it offered me 100% tuition, fees, room and board . I was also accepted by Wabash and UBC with aid. I know a boy who is also going to Duke. His name is Tanvi. Good luck !!

hey humed!!!! how u doin!!! is berea bettr than wabash?? how much aid did u get?? n whos this tanvi dude?? iv herd bout him from the american centr counselor...how much aid did he get n wat is he going to study?? ar ki khobr???

Berea is a better deal for me as it is the # 1 college in the south of the US for a Bachelor's degree according to US news and world report. (you can see it yourself). In Wabash, I had to pay $8,000 compared to only $2,250 (only for first year) in Berea. Besides, the college is also providing me with a laptop and I don't have to buy one. All these having said I have to work 10-15 hours per week within the semesters to cover my personal expenses. In Berea, all students have to work. This is how they manage to give huge fin. aid and scholarships to almost all of its students.

I meet Tanvi occasionally; he is a student of Cephalon. He had 10 (O Level) and 3 (A Level); 1980 (SAT I) and 2380 (SAT II). He was a member of USEP (if I am recalling correctly); I think the US colleges were partial towards USEP members this year.

Nowadays, I am working as a maths and physics teacher in my school. What are you doing for the Visa? Have you received the I-20 package? Keep in touch.

hey humed! :) im sending u a pm....

1980 and got into DUKE!!!!!! Amazing. Must be 660 in each sections.

what is USEP?

I do not know if I am getting the abbreviations correctly but USEP is a Bangladesh-based American organization that recruits good students from eclectic schools and trains them for the SATs and guides them throughout the application process. Lately USEP has risen to prominence due to its much talked-about recommendations, which seem to do the trick for most of its students.
