Related to admissions numbers

How important is it to college admissions to get a high rate of attendees vis a vis the number they accept? What is that number called?

It is called yield, and while colleges want a high yield, as it represents how “prestigious” they are compared to the peer institutions to which their acceptees were also admitted, they also need to be able to predict their yield. Some years, there are schools that experience a higher than anticipated yield and must make last-minute accommodations for those additional students.
