I'm wondering to what extent it's possible to do AP Bio and/or SAT II Bio.

I'm a junior and I take IB Biology Standard, but it's my 4th year taking bio. I have to pick my AP exams soon and am interested in AP Bio, as I know that many colleges don't award credit for SL subjects so ideally I'd to take the AP exam instead. I would prefer not to pay for the AP exam if I have very little chance of doing well.

I am pretty sure I'll self-study and take SAT Bio, and I'm curious if there's any overlap between AP and SAT II. If there is, given that AP Bio is in May, I would probably study for AP Bio and then take SAT Bio in June or so.

If anyone could give some insight into this, I'd really appreciate it.

I’m in IB Biology HL, but after my first year of it I decided to take the SAT II with minimal studying. I ended up with a poor score because although we had covered our topics in depth in class, we hadn’t covered too many. Most of my friends who took AP did much better, even those who aren’t very smart. I’m in my second year of IB Bio and I’m retaking the Bio SAT IIs tomorrow and I feel a bit more confident because I studied a little bit and we covered some more stuff.

I think studying AP Bio prepares you much better for the Bio SAT IIs, but IB Bio covers topics in much more depth.

Great, thanks a bunch. That’s very helpful. :)

And any thoughts on whether it’s worth it to try to self-study for AP Bio? Is it reasonably possible to self-study and do well on an AP exam or are they simply too hard? I’ve always done IB and IB prep, so I’ve little experience with AP.
