Relationship with Harvard & MIT

How's the relationship of Tufts with Harvard/MIT? Do the students interact with each other?

Solna,

The relationship between the three schools is quite relaxed and accessible, given that you actively try to form relationships. I'll break the relationship into three parts: social, extracurricular, intellectual.

Social: Students from one school will often go to parties at another. The students at Tufts/MIT/Harvard are similar in that they are for the most part well read, politically active, intellectual, go-getter types. For this reason, most find it easy to get along and many students have high school comrades at nearby schools. Logistically speaking, Tufts is two T-stops from Harvard, which is two T-stops from MIT. After a long night of partying at MIT (there Are parties there), one can take a cab home for about 12-15 bucks (usually split 3 or 4 ways).

Extracurricular: A highly underconsidered fact of Boston academic life is that the concentration of schools itself creates new opportunities for students. These opportunities include selective conferences, networks, clubs, races, fundraisers, rallies, concerts, etc. I'm a fellow in an organization called the Institute for Responsible Leadership. Tufts, MIT, and Harvard are the highest represented universities in the institute, followed by other Ivy, Nescac, and regional schools. I have made many friends from various schools throughout the program, and you should expect that similar experiences will be open to you should you take some initiative.

Intellectual: Right now I'm working on a little, entrepreneurial project with two guys from MIT and a friend from Tufts. We are weeks away from filing for a provisional patent on designs for a laptop security device. An industrial engineer at MIT is also 75% done with a set of prototypes he is machining in the MIT labs. We hope to have a full patent in the next few months.

Hopefully this gave you some good insight.

Thank you very much bullwinkle23, for such a detailed reply!!! =D

What kind of security device are you making Bullwinkle?
