Do I stand a chance at Ivies? I wanted to take subject tests in all different areas (math, science, history, language) to show that I'm well-rounded. I'm thinking of taking physics and re-taking US (I was expecting an 800 in that). What do you guys think?

collegekid, for Lit, I half-heartedly finished all of the practice tests in barrons. I never did exceptionally well on them, and I really disliked the book. Taking Lit was a gametime decision on test day, and I almost just walked out after taking US.

I was predicting an 800 for US and maybe a 650 for Lit. I was very surprised I did so well on Lit and again, surprised I didn't kick butt on US. I wish I had more advice for you, but all I did was finish all the practice tests for barrons, thought I was gonna do miserably, and came back with a score I'm very proud of.

Any thoughts on me taking physics and retaking US?

1MX, I'm not looking to brag nor do I think those are bad scores. I'm disappointed in my US score because I thought I had an 800 in the bag. I'm trying to see where I stand in the pool of ivy league applicants.

Really, why would I want to brag on an internet forum? Why don't I just say I got 800's on all of them? I know my scores are great for almost any college, but I'm looking to be a competitive applicant for the very top schools and just wanted to see where I stand. If you'd take a moment to read some of my past posts, you'd see that I'm not a troll and that I often give my advice to other forum members, instead of bragging about my accomplishments and seeking validation from strangers. You shouldn't be so quick to judge.

For the record, I also don't think people should be quick to judge people who "complain" about high scores as if they were fishing for compliments. For one, anyone who's been here a while knows that CC members are probably not going to be impressed anyway. :)

Some people just have high expectations of themselves, and that's fine. Don't assume the worst of people just because it may be true, give them the benefit of the doubt and try to help them instead.

tdn, those are great scores, but if you can get US up to 800, I say go for it.

I agree with 1MX, and .illogic. People who have that relatively good scores and do chances threads in order to verify "if they stand a chance" based on the scores....well, do I really need to comment on that? Begging for compliments is what it seems...

.illogic. clearly disagreed with 1MX. Really, I'm not seeking validation from strangers on the internet.

If you [1MX and debate] view it this way, then I think you guys have your own insecurity issues you need to work out. Really, how anyone gets, "Look at me!" from a post asking if I should retake my US exam and if I should take Physics is beyond me.

Err, yea, I meant I disagree with .illogic. Why would you really post a new thread just to hear that "no, tdn. Dont be afraid. A 780 average of your SAT IIs won't hurt you". Either you are really that slow, or really that fake. Go ahead, accuse us of insecurity. Not that I care. I just think that at some point, people are almost begging for recognition through CC. And this thread perfectly exemplifies it.

I mean for heaven's sake, what would a rational person say when he sees

Do I stand a chance at Ivies?

after an 800, 770, 760????

I agree to an extent with what .illogic said, cuz maybe you do have high expectations for yourself-as all of us CCers do. But when you come here asking if you stand a chance, based on above average SAT scores, then what can I say? Nobody said that we're getting the "Look at me!" from what you said in the post above.

We are getting the "Look at me!" from the purpose of the thread. If you had not posed the question "do I stand a chance" and you had just asked how do you compare with the rest, then it would have been different. But at this point, you are either uninformed, or plain cocky.

Asking how I did compared to everyone else seems more cocky to me.

All I want to know is, should I retake US and take Physics to continue to show well-roundedness for a good shot at the ivies, or should I move on another part of my college profile? If my aiming high comes off as cocky, then so be it. I know no matter how well I do on anything, someone will always be better. Had I gone 800's across the board, I wouldn't be on this forum. I'm asking because I'm wondering how critical those last few points are at elite universities.

But really, I do apologize if it seems that I'm trying to gain internet recognition.

I was rejected from Princeton but accepted at Dartmouth; those were the only Ivies I applied to. My scores were 800 (French), 750 (Literature), 710 (Chemistry), 710 (Biology-M), 700 (Math II), and 700 (Spanish). Now, I suppose you could argue that scores over 750 on all of them would've gotten me into Princeton, but I don't honestly believe my SAT scores were the damning flaw in my application. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.
