Splashdown. Most freakin' awesome band ever. It's like rock mixed with electronic (but cool electronic, not stupid electronic) mixed with...world? Dunno. Takes a while to get used to them but they're fabulous and smart. They're not on iTunes but the songs are free online.

Dishwalla, for rock/alternative songs (And You Think You Know What Life's About <- that CD, not their new one).

Um, what else. Rilo Kiley's good but I don't know if they qualify for "unpopular."

The Decemberists!!! you've gotta check out The Decemberisis!!! Download The Legionairre's Lement (however its spelled), The Engine Driver and The Tain (parts I, II, III, IV).

heres another, they are a emo rap fusion group i guess thats what you can call it, they arent all that amazing musically but i love their style....

Gym Class Heroes
Also there is this unsigned band. There unsigned so of course they are a little rough its acoustic/alternative they're called Suburban Plight

"Then you're not listening to the band because of the quality of their music, but by the image they seem to give you. A good band is a good band regardless of who likes them. Are you one of those people who purposely seek out underground, indie bands to seek "street cred", as opposed to discovering good music? Because there's nothing lamer in my opinion."

wow i didnt know you can get street cred from indie bands... but anyway like i said earlier i still listen to the bands even when they get big but sometimes when i list my favorite bands, I would like to not sounding like everyone else (dashboard confessional, the killers, fall out boy, etc...). I just think music expresses your personality and i would like to have something thats a little different from everyone else.

... one of the best songs ever written i think is "the tide" by spill canvas although i wouldnt really call the spill canvas unpopular. Mars volta had the one song that i loved i think its called "the widow" but other than that they just seem really weird... what genre are they anyway??

I guess you could say they are prog. rock, if you just like the widow, try downloading some of the songs from "de-loused in the comatorium" they aren't as different as the songs from "frances the mute"

"Apocalyptica - a group of guys playing metal on cellos. What more could you ask for?"( i dont know how to ue the quote thingy lol)
Yeah they're really great. I saw them play just last weekend. They're awesome, their own songs are great and their metallica covers rock. Check out Sherwood, I dont know how well known it is in the US but here nobody has heard of it.
