Relaxing vacation ideas with a healing broken foot

The Boulders is a nice resort just outside of Scottsdale where you can stay in small casitas. There is a spa (in a separate building) on property that offers all sorts of spa services plus several pools (indoor and out). You can get from place to place fairly easily–there are walkways. Also, you have a choice of several places to dine at the resort and lots of places nearby. H and I have been there twice–most recently for a wedding in 2019.

@snowball this is the Texas hill country place where we stayed. I thought it was wonderful. The room rates are costly…but I think they probably are at any resort. But this would be a drive rather than an airline trip. Just a thought.

How about Hilton Head? Get a nice hotel or condo on the beach. Lots of great restaurants and fun bars. Beach is hard packed sand so could probably manage it with a knee scooter (which I highly recommend). I’m sure there are some lovely spas there.

@beebee3 New Orleans is where she broke her foot while visiting her brother! While we were there for the beginning of Mardi Gras, that was not the cause of the injury :scream:; she slipped on the stairs in his house going to get her toddler.

@thumper1 They want to fly some where and get out of Texas, but looks nice.

They have thought about Cancun, but just a fleeting thought. Still trying to decide if they can make Hawaii work, but I think with what they had planned, it would be the trip they wanted.

My daughter grew up going to HIlton Head every summer, and she has taken her husband before, so will want something different and new.

If they don’t want to blow their wad on this trip, take Napa off the table, unless they can go Monday thru THursday. Getting crazy expensive there on the weekends…

What about San Diego/La Jolla area? Southwest flies there. Lots to do. Beautiful.

San Diego is one of my favorite places to visit, but I think it might not work for someone on crutches as things are quite spread out.

Why don’t they keep their original plans and just veg out on the beach in Maui?

I agree that a knee scooter can be a useful purchase. I didn’t get one when I broke my fibula. I just begged out at home and waited to heal. My SisIL broke her foot at a wedding and they bought a knee scooter on Craigslist at a great price. It allowed her to keep working and stay more active than I was while recovering.

When she was done with the knee scooter, they sold it on Craigslist or similar for about the price they had purchased it for, so essentially a free rental.

Niagra Falls and Niagra on the Lake are nice places to bliss out. You can enjoy watching the falls if the weather isn’t too cold for your tastes. Trios is a nice winery with a nice dining room.

+1 on Lost Pines. It’s beautiful. I’ve only been there once, so I can’t remember how many steps can be avoided on porches, etc. I’m sure Hyatt has someone who can answer those questions.

Thank you for the suggestions; if they go anywhere, they are thinking of Cabo. Daughter’s surgery and the planned week of travel, only leaves her 4.5 weeks of recovery. If she is able to walk with a boot, they will go; if she is still not able to be weight bearing, they may cancel the whole trip. We are all on a wait and see.
