Haha, don’t freak out if you haven’t got the email-- I’m assuming it’s more for very low-income applicants who happen to be non-white. I got the letter, but I am full asian, which is not often shown as an under-represented minority, merely a general minority in US. Also, I qualified as a questbridge finalist, which puts more umph on the financial side than diversity side (if that even makes sense)~
Wish you all the best!

Asians are still minorities, just not Under Represented Minorities in the college application process. However, even this is not true all the time. Some individual schools consider Asians as URMs because they have a difficult time recruiting and retaining them, often due to the location of the school, for instance Amherst & Grinnell include Asians in their Diversity weekends. And, some Asians, particularly those from SE Asia are often considered URMs. This is similar to the fact that within Hispanic applicants, those with MA and PR backgrounds are the most sought after because they are the most underrepresented in college.

@raiishu
I’m not sure its targeted at low-income, non-white acceptees. I received the email, and though I applied for financial aid my family’s income bracket is upper middle class.

Maybe it’s just location and applying for finaid? Anyone on the east coast got one of these?

EDIT: Can’t diversity also be geographic? Sometimes isn’t being from say Oregon be an advantage?

That could be part of it. I’m from So. AZ.

Wait, so are internationals getting these emails too?

I wonder why they’re releasing decisions so late… I mean it’s after Ivies, I haven’t heard of ANYONE who does that.

^ Heard of Tufts?

Also, Stanford and Williams
Yes, it is annoying

^ Tufts hasn’t released anything, but the general expectation is to hear back on March 30th (based on last year’s class - they heard March 31st).

Hi from low-income depressed international applicant who hasn’t recieved anything yet.

There is no way that Amherst would ever consider sending decisions after the “Ivies”. This guessing when decisions will be released is getting annoying and will have a negative impact on people wanting to go there!

^two pages back there’s a letter sent to those who are getting trips funded to the open house stating official e-mails are being sent on the 1st and letters sent out via snail mail on the 31st.

@MarieM, you’re not alone… I’m about to start planning for an extended gap year.

@LuigiGBA

I’m from the East Coast and received the offer to fund my travel. I’m actually only about two hours driving distance away from Amherst, so it really surprised me.

^Not be accusatory or anything but why does your profile stamp thingy have your location as west coast?

^
Luigi, Amherst also offers ground transportation fare such as the train or bus for those who are within a certain number of miles.

a good representation of us.

Haha, I actually think Paranoid Parrot is a really good mascot for CC. Or at least for my college decision-ness.

paranoid parrot is definitely the mascot of CC, lol.

and it definitely describes my life haha (:

also, socially awkward penguin = me.
