Release of Financial Aid

I was wondering if funds really do get released a week before school starts (the 18th) or if it takes longer. My off-campus housing is supposed to be paid with my financial aid so that's why I am anxious to know. Most of my aid is through grants & only about $2000 is loans, does that hurt or help my chances of getting my aid sooner?

Federal things usually get disbursed after school starts. Private scholarships/grants, idk really. I’ve never had one. My roommate had a Geosciences scholarship/grant type thing, and he got it around late September.

Do you know why is it so different for UT? I know UTSA is releasing their funds on the 15th. And by Federal things do you mean just loans or grants or both?

My son was required to write a thank-you note for his small engineering scholarship. He submitted it for review a few weeks ago. He’s supposed to go into the office on August 31 to sign it, then they will automatically deposit the money into our checking account. He has to maintain a 3.5 to get the second half in the spring. Yikes, that may be hard in his major! I’m not counting on that money.

By federal I meant loans, since I’ve never gotten a grant before. It’s just my own experience talking (and my roommate’s experience)
