Religion: I'm RC, but my parents want me down as protestant

This is odd.

Okay, I was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church, but when I was about 11, my family decided to split, and join the Presbyterian Church because our RC Church denied my great-grandfather a burial place at their cemetary (he never attended, but made a lot of donations).

But I didn't like the Church we switched to and I don't agree with many of their positions on 'things'; regardless, I havn't attended the Presbyterian church I supposedly belong to in a few years. And besides, I still feel Catholic.

It's an issue now because I'm working on an essay for Auburn:
Please explain why you believe that your unique cultural, educational and life experiences will enhance the educational experience of the freshmen class at Auburn University.
Honestly, besides being from the Midwest, I've got nothing. If I'm supposedly a Presbyterian, well, that wouldn't do anything for me because most people in the south are Protestant.

I could just put myself down as Roman Catholic, but, I'm worried that my parents will find out somehow and be annoyed. But my greatest concern is because my parents looked over my Ole Miss application and had me put down as Presbyterian.. so I'm wondering whether if I submit my Auburn app as a Catholic, whether they'll somehow have knowledge that I applied to a different school as a different religion, which might lead them to question the validity of everything I said.

Its probably better not to put religion down at all (unless you're up for some sort of scholarship). That said, you can still write about it - if you do, you can explain the good aspects of both that you have adopted (try to stay away from the bad) - maybe about how it has helped you, and as a result, your future college community.

I doubt colleges will go to the trouble to cross-check the religion that applicants mark on the application.
