Hi guys, so I’ve been brainstorming for my college essay and I keep coming back to religion (I’m a Catholic Christian). But I’ve heard that writing on religion is pretty risky. But the thing is, I wouldn’t write exactly about the teachings and all that but rather how it’s shaped who I am and how important it is to me. Like, I would probably talk about being confirmed and my experiences and what they meant to me and blah blah blah. The only other thing I could think of is writing about my youth minister who has made an impact in my life but mainly in regards to my faith. My last resort would be writing about piano but I don’t feel like I could write as meaningfully about that. Any advice??
It’s fine to write about religion if you focus on how it has shaped you. Many of the religious essays I’ve read read like a resume, however - avoid that.
