I should point out that not all these are mutually exclusive, though. Someone can be an agnostic Christian, for example, and while atheism is not synonymous with a lack of religion, it isn’t one itself (the same way theism isn’t a religion). I go with agnostic because I’m not religious and because I’m not bothered by the question of whether a deity exists, but…

In addition, I think a lot of people say they are a “Christian” or “Jewish” without actually being it. It’s one thing to be actually believe in all of the religion deep down, but just because your parents are Christians, and you celebrate Christmas and Easter if you don’t know what the bible says or even believe in Jesus you shouldn’t be calling yourself a Christian.

If I were to be extremely specific, I’m a secular Humanist. But adding fancy-shmancy terms to this list would be futile, and “Atheist” just acts as a good blanket term.

I’m on my phone, so could someone add me to the Christian column? I’m LDS.

Atheism isn’t even a religion

@helloel “Gnosticism” means knowledge, certainty; “theism” means belief. An agnostic Christian believes in God but thinks their belief to be unknowable and unprovable. A gnostic atheist, on the other hand, would assure that no God exists.

Of course, then we have the grey areas where people like me fall. Hence me only considering myself agnostic.

Is there really such a thing as an agnostic Christian? I thought the whole idea of faith was that you believe in God even though His existence is unprovable in the temporal world. Correct me if I’m wrong; I’m not Christian.

Not agnostic Christian, but agnostic theist.

I’m on my phone but someone please add me to the atheist column!

I think agnostic Christian means more like you believe in God/a higher being but acknowledge that you do not know exactly what it is. That could be totally wrong though, I’ve read the Bible and gone to church but I honestly don’t remember a lot of it. I didn’t do Confirmation after a lot of soul searching and just knowing that I am atheist (it was awkk… But I’m still glad I did it)

Haven’t any of you guys heard of copy and paste? If your phone goes in the internet, it probably has the power of copy and paste.

No, not on the mobile app. It’s weird. At least not for an iPhone. I tried to do it, but I just waited until I got home on my laptop.

I doubt anyone here, even agnostics, can describe what the word agnostic means.

I took it to mean that an agnostic believes that humans do not have the capacity to understand the existence of a higher power. Atheists do believe that humans have this capacity to understand, but rather there is nothing to understand, no higher power or god to recognize.

I think a lot people improperly use the term agnostic to describe themselves when they aren’t really sure what they believe.

^This. I’m sure many agnostics realize what they mean when they say agnostic. But I also think there are a lot who don’t… I said I was agnostic for a little, then realized I’m not and stopped. I think a lot of people are just confused, so they go with agnostic since they feel like they need to fit into a category or something. And yeah I can’t copy/paste on CC on my iphone. I’m on a computer now though haha.
