Religious Affiliation

So I was filling out an application, and came across the question "Religioius Affiliation: ___________". Here's my question, if the school you're applying to is predominantly Christian, and you aren't, then should you fill it out or not?

Btw, the school officially says that it has no religious affiliation.

anyone????

If you identify with a particular religion then put it.If not then don't. I am definitly a Christian so I put that for my religious affiliation for all colleges that asked reguardless of whether they were Christian or not. If a college won't accept you because of your religion then do you really think its worth going to?

Check to see if the college has a statement of non-discrimination. Normal colleges (i.e. not Bob Jones U) have a statement that says they will not discriminate based on color, creed, gender, disability, etc.

A lot of colleges that are affiliated with relgions do take religion into account. It doesn't matter all that much though; just write the truth.

that's good to know, i'm pretty sure this school has a non-discrimination policy, I just didn't know if it could adversly affect your chances of getting into the school.

I had that same question too. I just wrote down my religious affiliation. I was baptised, but not all that religious. If you don't have an affiliation leave it blank. I don't think its all that important. They won't reject you on the basis of religion.

X College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, disability, veteran status or age in the administration of any of its educational programs, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, athletic and other school-administered programs or in employment.

I copied this from a college with a religious affiliation. They didn`t mention religion.

Then again:

*It prohibits discrimination, including harassment, against students on the basis of sex, race, age, color, disability, religion, sexual orientation, national and ethnic origin, and any other characteristic protected by applicable law in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarships and loan programs, and athletic and other University-administered programs. *

I copied this from a college without a religious affiliation. They did mention religion.

I
m not just relying on two statements. I decided to look around and see other schools, and I noticed that those that are religious affiliated did not add religion to their universal policy statements, while those that have no religious affiliation did. But I
m sure that religion doesn
t play a major role in admissions, so it
s nothing big to worry about.

Admissions Factors
Here's how Wake Forest University ranks the relative importance of various factors in admissions decisions:

Academic Criteria Importance

Secondary school record Very Important

Class rank Very Important

Recommendations Important

Standardized test scores Very Important

Essays Important

Non-Academic Criteria Importance

Interview Not Considered

Extracurricular activities Important

Talent / ability Important

Character / personal qualities Very Important

Alumni/ae relation Important

Geographical residence Considered

State residency Considered

Religious affiliation/commitment Important

Minority status Important

Volunteer work Important

Work experience Not Considered

This was copied directly off the admissions factors section on the Princeton Review Website, The school (Wake) says it has no religious affiliation, but says that Religious affiliation/commitment is very important.

Wake Forest does have a religious affiliation. I am pretty sure it is Baptist.

Anyway I was accepted to Wake Forest with a religious affiliation of Episcopalian. I wouldn't worry too much about it. It might have some small bearing, but it will not shadow your other accomplishments in the least.

Alright.... thanks everyone.
