I have a question.. Will I be doomed if I apply as a Protestant? I know this sounds a bit vague.. but I'm just curious.

No, you will not be discriminated against either as far as admissions go or as a student. 80% of the student body is Catholic, so be aware of that, but I always have thought that we are very accepting of other faiths. Good luck!

One of the featured threads for Notre Dame is on this very topic.

I question whether 80% of the student body is Catholic. Isn't that stat from applications?

good lord this question is brought up a lot

about 84 % of the frosh class is catholic, but it is only a direct representation of the applicant pool.

But, I think many kids may put they are Catholic even if they are protestant thinking that it may give them an advantage. not true

Yes, that is the statistic. But as with American society, there is a difference between practicing Catholic and non-practicing Catholic. There is also the matter that ND is 80% Catholic because the people that apply to a school like ND are self selecting. This can be said also for a school like Mormon Brigham Young University, Catholic Boston College, Catholic College of the Holy Cross, etc. If you decide to apply as a Protestant, it will neither hurt not harm you.

Lying about religion to get into a heavily religious school... Something's just not right about that.

No, you wont be doomed. The large number of Catholics here doesnt mean they give more consideration to Catholic applicants, it just means that most the people who apply are Catholic, since its a Catholic University. (I got to ND, and Im Protestant, BTW)

It doesn't matter, put what you are. 4:7 and Iron Sharpens Iron which are interfaith dialogue groups are huge, if you're into that sort of thing as a Christian, if not no worries. And Campus Ministry is pretty chill about helping you out if your Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu whatever
