Lafayette is on my list of schools but I noticed that it is a Presbyterian affiliation. I'm not a particularly religious person so I was wondering how noticable it was on campus. Rated on a scale of 1-10 (1-being no religious aspect @ all and 10-being like BYU). Also are there academic religious requirements that you have meet? Thanks

I’d give it a 1

Definitely no academic religious requirements. I never even knew that Lafayette had a Presbyterian affiliation.

We were told that the affiliation exists in name only. Case in point: on Sunday mornings, the Catholic service uses the main sanctuary in the chapel, not the Presbyterians.

Well, two points:

The theme for incoming freshmen is Darwin, a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Origin of Species;

There’s a very active Hillel, and the dining services provide Kosher meals for the High Holidays.

Definitely a 1. The two most visible religious communities on campus are comprised of the Catholic and Jewish students. The overall ambience of the campus is very secular. Like many others I wasn’t aware of the historical link between Lafayette and the Presbyterian Church (and I was a Presbyterian until my twenties) until my daughter began to look seriously at the school.

Lafayette was founded with the support of the Presbyterian Church but any any affiliation today is very remote. As others point out, the college is very secular and does not any religious/religion requirements. Note to members of congregations belonging to Presbyterian Church USA – PCUSA does (or at least did) offer financial aid opportunities for their members. Lafayette is still listed on their website as PC(USA)-related school. I do not know what the scholarship/grant/loan requirements are. You can check their website for the financial aid opportunities, including the National Presbyterian College Scholarship. Go to: [PC(USA) - Financial Aid for Studies](http://www.pcusa.org/financialaid)
They also offer financial aid to graduate students. It may be worth a try.
