what does is actually mean that duke is religiously affiliated? does it mean anything or affect any aspect of the school?

Duke is historically Methodist. In practice, though, it’s secular.

For undergraduates, effectively it doesn’t mean anything. The Chapel is very large and right in the middle of campus. There are Methodists on the board of trustees. But Duke is not, e.g., Biola.

It doesn’t mean anything really. Duke has a historical affiliation with the Methodist church in the same way that Harvard was founded to train ministers.

What does it mean? The historical relationship meant that the campus got a really great chapel!

The current Dean of the Chapel is Anglican.
