Religious Affiliation

I know that Pepperdine is affiliated to the Church of Christ. I'm Christian, but I'm Roman Catholic, and I am very involved at my church. How much will being Roman Catholic slim my chances at Pepperdine? It's one of my top choices.

Nope. Pepperdine will be happy to know that you are heavily involved at your church. You should emphasize that on your application. Pepperdine is only affiliated with the Church of Christ and, compared to other CoC schools, adheres to only a few of its traditions. The university is first and foremost Christian and works to maintain a student body with like values. I think Catholic is actually the largest denomination represented on campus…

Thanks so much for the response. I also have another question: I’m involved at church, but I’m not a die-hard churchgoer. I mean, I go to church, but I’m not super religious. How would I fit in at Pepperdine?

You’d fit in just fine. There is a wide range - from students who go to 5 different worship events a week, to people who just commit Sundays, to people who aren’t even Christian. You’ll find a niche you fit in with, and I haven’t observed much judgment of different preferences.

Pepperdine students are no different than any other college students, just more of them have a passion for Christ than on other campuses.

a lot of the students there don’t even have any religious affiliations, so your chances aren’t decreased
