Hey guys, I was just wondering if a religious personal statement would be an absolutely disastrous idea. My personal statement for QuestBridge's College Prep Scholarship was pretty religious, and I didn't get much from it other than an admissions conference that I can't attend. :(

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks(:

affirmations of your faith and how it enriches your life are fine. i’d stay away from anything involving controversial issues, however.

In general, I would stay away from anything that could be considered controversial and would appeal to the widest audience, since you do not really know your audience. Thus, if you are applying to a school with religious affiliations (i.e. a Jesuit school) this would be a good idea. However, I don’t think it would be a good idea for a traditional college as your essay reader is likely to be from the liberal arts department of that college; and they are all looney, left-winged, atheists with nothing better to do by smite the dreams on teenagers in order to pump their over-inflated egos.
