It is easy to get IL residency. You just have to live and work here during the year prior to matriculating. Not having work experience can be a negative for business programs.
It takes full-time about 2 years to complete a MBA or Masters in Accounting.
If you want to go to school in a large city than UIUC is not for you. UIUC is in Urbana-Champaign, a small-medium size city in central Illinois.

If you are a full-time student, at UIC you are eligible for TA/GA ships.

My college roommate was a Masters of Accounting student at UIC. Since she was a UIC undergrad she was able to use some of her classwork towards her masters. She was always studying and stressed out. She was always worried about making the 3.0.

A lot of your chance will depend on your GMAT score since you have no work experience. My sister had a similar GPA to you, but she did have work experience. She wanted to go to DePaul. However, she did not do too well on her GMAT and thus decided she could not get in. If she had a higher score, she could have gotten in.

Nova10, Depaul just popped up on my radar, since it is right in the city and well known for accounting. Only problem is its super expensive. BTW, I emailed the recruiter from BDO in the Chicago area about schools they recruit from. Her response was this,

“BDO actively recruits from U of I, DePaul and NIU in the Chicago area however, we hire qualified students from other schools, as well”.

I’ll leave that for your own interpretation.

DePaul also has a branch campus in Des Plaines. However, I’m not quite sure of the long term stability of the campus because they are going to build a casino either on that property or right next to it.
NIU is in DeKalb, and has a decent business program. They also have a satellite campus is Hoffman Estates, I believe.
My interpretation is that they actively send recruiters to those schools; however, if a qualified individual directly applies to them, they will still look at the person. The UofI system sponsored job fairs in Chicago are mostly at UIC. Sometimes they are also at the alumni office.
My sister also mentioned cost was a deterrent to DePaul. However, she is only doing one class at time.
Have you looked at Loyola U Chicago? They have a good reputation.

I’ve briefly looked at Loyola, and it seems to be a bit too overly religious for my tastes. Depaul keeps sticking in my mind now as well as UIUC, but I will have to make some visits before I decide for sure.
