remainders

can somebody explain me this, please?
which of the following could be the remainders when four consecutive positive integers are each divided by 3?
a)1,2,3,1
b)1,2,3,4
c)0,1,2,3
d)0,1,2,0
e)0,2,3,0

so, i get that the remainder should be less or equal to 2... but what about when this kind of exercise has different numbers? how do i solve it? :/

By definition, remainders upon dividing by n must be in the range {0, …, n-1} --> eliminate A, B, C, E. Therefore D is the answer.
