I’m a senior. I took SAT English first marking period, & will be starting SAT math my second marking period (Thur). My SAT scores are only a 490 CR & 360 M, although I’ve passed the ASVAB.
I was told on CC my low scores may require me to take an extra year of college, because I’ll be in remedial classes. Today, my GC said that these SAT prep classes will help me avoid remedial classes. Is this true?
It depends. If the school you join has tests that allow you to show proficiency then it’s possible.
Your own guidance counselor knows which colleges and universities have admitted students from your high school who have grades and test scores like yours, and also knows which of those students have been able to finish college in four years. So pay attention to what your counselor tells you. Your counselor is the expert on students from your own high school.
I would speak to the admissions office at your college(La Salle right?) & ask them.
Did you take the Accuplacer? (That’s what students at my school take if they didn’t get a 400 on CR & math)
What math class did you take in HS? (Did you take [Discrete,Stat,Trig,Adv Algebra,Pre-Calc,Calc?] This also matters for college placement.
What is your major? If it’s not a STEM/Health major the math section won’t be super important. If you are a Business or Humanities/Arts major you should be fine with just Algebra 2 & be ready for Pre-Calc or Calc.
Since this was posted almost 6 months ago and NJGirl has been accepted already at different schools I think she has a handle on things.
