Remedial classes

I ABSOLUTELY suck at taking any type of test. I tend to make good grades but when it comes to tests, I sucks. I took my compass test and my scores weren’t the greatest. Is there any way that I can exempt from those classes? I really don’t need them and I don’t want to have to stay in a community college for 3 years because I want to transfer to a 4 year.

Every school is different. You may be able to go to your English and/or Math Departments and see if they will give you another evaluation. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

You can’t exempt from them. I had to take remedials and it sets you back from graduating in 2 years. I say just take them (hopefully you just have to take 1 math and 1 writing remedial only) pass them and that’s it. You’ll be able to transfer eventually

Can you brush up on your math and then re-take the Compass test? There are tons of online Compass test prep resources.

At the CC my S14 is at, you can’t retake a placement test unless you withdraw for one year and take no classes. He has to take one remedial math class. He did successfully appeal his writing placement. His essay was rescored and he now has no remedial English requirements. S14 took a gap year and is only doing 3 - 6 credits a semester.
