Hi all....Since there has been discussion on meal plans, I thought I would also remind everyone about depositing Lion Cash for your student when he/she heads off to PSU. If a student has a paid meal plan and runs out of meal points, the Lion Cash can be used as meal points at the same discounted rate. Also it can be used as an option of payment at various locations on and off campus. Some locations offer discounts when it is used.

Most importantly, it is the only way to pay for laundry in the dorms. It, like the meal plan, is loaded onto your ID card and is swiped at the laundry facilities.

Penn State id+: LionCash+
Penn State id+: Featured Merchants
Penn State Discounts

Just be careful not to have too much left when your student graduates, there is a $10 processing fee for refunds. (See disclosure and refund policy)

If you pay with Lion Cash in any of the dining commons, you get less of a discount than if you paid with meal points.

Hmmm....Maybe I did not interpret the website correctly.

From the PSU LionCash site:

"It complements the on-campus residents' A La Board meal plan – if you run out of meal points, on-campus dining registers will automatically default to your LionCash+ account. If there are enough funds to cover the cost of your purchase, the funds will automatically be withdrawn from your LionCash+ account and the sale will be processed at the A-La Board rate"

Oh. I guess they charge the Lion Cash price only if you pay with Lion Cash having no meal plan to start with. When I look at the Lion Cash price displayed by the cashier, it's like twice as much as the meal points.

I think that only works at the commons. So if you buy like food at redifer that isn't made by the staff (sodas, chips, cookies etc) then you won't get the discout.

Does the balance of your A La Board meal points come up every time you use it or do you need to be continuously checking on your own?
Also, if I'm understanding this correctly, unless your child is planning on doing tons of laundry-no worries here- a student who takes the highest level of meal plan, would theoretically not need to put a lot of $$ on the Lion Cash card because most places on campus (dorms or not, ie. Hub eateries) accept the points from the meal plan. Is that right?

Points/lioncash info show up every time you make a purchase. You can also easily check it online. I wouldn't skimp on putting lioncash on the card. Most downtown stores accept lioncash. I rarely have cash on me now. I just transfer money over from my bank account to my lioncash. It transfers instantly.
