Remembering words

How do you guys remember 20 words a day? Because thats like 140 words a week? O_o

Dorkyelmo,

Let’s say on Monday you memorize 20 words during the day. Before bed time, quiz yourself on all 20 to ensure you know them all by night time. Get a good night’s sleep. Tuesday morning go over monday’s 20 words; you MUST get them ALL correct EASILY before you move onto the next set of 20. Repeat this process. It isn’t that bad at all; 20 words is pretty easy imo. I was pressed for time and was memorize 50 words a day for 2 weeks o_O.

I’m doing about 50 words a day. The key thing is to review. Review a list a few hours after you do it for the first time, review it the day after, and review it in a week or so.

Okay! Thanks.
And I’m think of remembering 50 words… Just because the PSAT is 3 months away and I have the remember 3500 words…

but thanks (:

Dorkyelmo,

3500 words? What set/brand of Flash Cards are you using?

~Aceventura74

I’m using barrons 3500 words thing.

Dorkyelmo,

Best of luck with it :D. I heard its epic, but at least you’ll never EVER guess on Sentence Completions if you really do get it down.

~Aceventura74

Haha thanks
It’s not really that EPIC. Out of 5 wordlist I only don’t know 8-9 words. So it’s okay. XD

It’s better if the words are categorized by roots or meanings!

Like princeton review lists? ^

I’ve been memorizing 120 words per day.

Think of tricks to help you memorize a word. Sometimes, the word will look like another word that reminds you of the definition. Other times, you can break up the words into parts that form a (fragmented) sentence/phrase to help you memorize the definition.

By the way, if you follow my advice, it usually takes about 1-2 hours (in front of the TV) to remember that many words :D

Really? That’s great (:

But hey, I need help remembering there eight words:
-Altruistic
-Anarchist
-Aberrant
-Abstemious
-Accolade
-Abstruse
-Heretical
-Apocryphal

If you guys have any tips, can you please tell me thanks (:

Always study before you go to bed. Its amazing how much you can remember words after sleeping on it.

And for those words^ make flashcards. Then go through only those cards as many times as it takes for you to remember them and while you study them, try to think of how you would use it in a sentence in a conversation with your friends or family and if you can, actually use them.

Yeah. I did that. I highly suggest that when you make a flashcard you draw a relevant picture that goes along with it. It helped my remember abstemious ^.^

Use mnemonics! Think of cool ways to remember the words and picture it in your head. (Or draw it if you really want to.)

Altruistic- (Al True’s wish stick) helps him to be more altruistic by granting people’s wishes.
Aberrant- (A bear’s rant) is a very abnormal, aberrant thing to hear, since bears don’t talk.
Abstruse- (Ab’s truce) is a very long, complicated, and abstruse document.

Make up the rest on your own!
And there are books for this, full of ways to remember words. You can look it up if you want to. I have two: “Picture These SAT Words” and “SAT Words and How To Remember Them Forever.”

@Dorkyelmo: what picture did you draw for abstemious?? lol

@Dorkyelmo :Look at this site: [The Free & Smart Way to Learn SAT Test Vocabulary Words](<a href=“Satvocab - The Free and Smart Way to Learn SAT Test Vocabulary Words”>Satvocab - The Free and Smart Way to Learn SAT Test Vocabulary Words)

These may not help much( bc they may only make sense in my head), but here’s how I memorized them:

Altruistic- reminds me of the phrase “all true is,” which reminds me of someone’s lifestyle. Sounds like an honest person–> good person–> cares about the welfare of others=DEFINITION.

Anarchist- reminds me of “an arch.” An arch reminds me of the type of architecture that you see at the capital city(a biiig arch for sight-seeing…but maybe that’s just me). Then, mental image time–I see people petitioning against the government at this arch –> people who petition against any form of government=DEFINTION.

Aberrrant- reminds of “Abe rant(s)” …as in he’s(Abe is) ranting about something he doesn’t like. Ranting=rude= “departing from the accpeted standard”=DEFINTION.

Abstemious- the first part reminds me of “Abs team”…people with abs= skinny? How do they do it?they’re not “self-indulgent, esp. for food”= DEFINITION.

Accolade-reminds me of “a cool aid”…like a nice(cool) help(aid) in the admission process= “awards”=DEFINITION.

Abstruse- reminds me of “Ab(y)'s truth”…the truth about Aby is “difficult to understand”= DEFINITION.

Heretical-think of heresy= unorthodox= DEFINTION.

Apocryphal(ACTUAL word on my PSAT!)=reminds of “AP cry, fall” as in some people say if you take AP classes, you’ll only fall(or fail) and cry at the end. This is “a widely circulated idea, but it’s not true”= DEFINITION.

Am I crazy, or did any of that actually make sense to you, too? haha.
