Reminder from Brown University

Personally I believe that the times are determined by the region you're in, the regions as defined by Brown, not necessarily with acceptance or rejection, or even different time zones. I say this because my last name starts with F and I have a 6:30 time.

Or I could be totally wrong...I'm really just trying to distract myself!
:)

Oh I lied mine is at 6! and my last name starts with a B so I am thinking it is not alphabetical.

i think the different regions thing is quite valid. another girl at my school was assigned the same time as me, even though we're at opposite ends of the alphabet & some other ppl in our geographic region (but not same school) have different times

sorry-- I didn't mean to imply that later times meant rejections, just that within those times, the same thing might happen.

hmmm, you all are trying to figure out the meaning behind the different times and we still don't even have the email....!

Those of you in the South..what time did you get it?

Like Mountains mentioned earlier in this thread, the reminder went to a strange e-mail my S used when he was a sophomore to contact Brown about summer programs. They didnt use the email on his application. Strange.

Thank you, drzhivago. You are right, it was on a much older email address that we don't check often.

Brown for you

I must admit I'm feeling a little pessimistic about this whole email thing. Considering Brown received over 20K applications, they would have a vested interest in keeping the hits on their server network down to a manageable number when decisions are posted. Like only to those who have received an acceptance or deferral, maybe?

I mean, if I'm Brown's IT manager, why do I want to waste server space for kids who have not been accepted? I would think about limiting it by only sending out advisory emails to those who have been accepted or deferred.

Of course, the only flaw in that plan is public discussion sites like this one where people share information freely. But I have to conclude that the fact that many on this board have received emails while others have not is somehow meaningful and not in a good way.

You guys realize this acceptance thing happens every year right? Do some research on the forum. People talk about these things annually.

Thanks very much, drzhivago, you're absolutely right...found it buried in a very old email account.

Indeed I do understand that, wolfmanjack. But how would you explain the fact that, although everyone on this thread has applied to Brown, NOT everyone has received the notification email that this thread is about? What is Brown's interest in only sending such an email to some applicants and not others?

BTW, there are only two email accounts that this notice could possibly have come to and it has been received in neither.

I got an e-mail on March 6th. I live in Switzerland and I am an international and it said 5:00PM your local time... but seriously I don't think it means anything so good luck everyone!!!! :)

but does it at least mean if you live in the same place you get the same time?? I live in Switzerland too and it said 5:00 PM local time...
So if they're just trying to stop people from checking the site all at once, the results will be out earlier?

Chill people. The first people who got it had last names that started with B, F, H. I'm C so they're probably sending it to people in alphabetical waves. They have other 20,000 applications..they prob don't want to jam their system.

Has nothing to do with admissions. And if, by some chance it does, we won't even know until march 31.

I received an email last week too - last name starting with M and i'm international.

@CProspect2008

i received an email last week as well - last name starting with A

I'm international as well, last name is in the latter half of the alphabet and received the email last week.

There is absolutely no correlation between the receipt of the email and admission decisions. The content of the email alluded to nothing of that sort. If anything, Brown somehow missed a few students when sending out the email. You should still be able to access your decision online on March 31st if you have your password and username (which you got through the mail) by going to Brown University Admission Decision around 5 or 6 PM your time.

Did you guys read mountains' post #75? And read the links? Deja vu all over again....
