Rems 2010/2011

Hey everyone!

I don't know whether there is already a thread for this...but I wanted to start a REMS thread for prospective U of R students. Who here is applying to REMS? I'm excited but a tad nervous...heh...

I’m not doing REMS but will apply for GEAR.

Will start a new thread too.

Hey, bailey42… I am glad to hear that you are excited. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the program and/or application process.

Thanks, MConklin! I will definitely let you know if I have questions. Knowing me, I probably will.

I am applying to REMS as well, and I was a little confused about the second essay question on the combined-admission programs supplement. It says to write an essay on why you would enjoy working with a certain faculty member teaching in the graduate program to which you are applying, and it says that faculty information can be found on the university’s website, [University of Rochester](http://www.rochester.edu), but I can’t figure out where on the website it gives any information about faculty members, especially specifying ones that work in the REMS program. Any information would be really helpful.

Well, first of all you need to narrow down your field of interest for research.

Neuroscience/neurology? Cancer research? Pediatrics? Community medicine?

Check the faculty pages of medical school profs. [University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester NY](http://www.urmc.rochester.edu/)

Also look at the various biology subdepartment and labs at the River campus. There is a lot of crossover between the Bio dept faculty and med school faculty-and some are on faculty at both places.

There is not one specific subset of faculty that works specifically with REMS students.

I was wondering, is it required that the REMS application be mailed in? Can we submit the Common Application and Rochester supplement online while mailing in the REMS application separately?

You can, but there should be an electronic version of the REMS Application on our website.

Thanks! Would it be ok if I did mail in the REMS application while submitting the normal U of R supplement online (for formatting reasons and just personal preference  )?

Yes, that would be fine. Once we recieve the document we will scan it so that we can associate it with your file electronically. Good luck!

Hello again,

I was trying to download the REMS application from the following URL from the U of R website:

enrollment.rochester.edu/admissions/res/pdf/cap.pdf

but for some reason the page will not open. I’m hoping to print out the application and submit it ASAP, but cannot open the PDF from any computer I try from :/. Any advice?

I’m not sure. I am out of the office today but will ask tomorrow if this is an error on our end, and I will respond with an update when I have more information. Is anyone else unable to open the PDF?

That’s a negative here too.
Something’s definitely wrong with the link.
By the way, bailey42, where did you get that link to the PDF? I tried Googling it but nothing came up :\ I’m going to apply online but I like seeing the actual application format (they all look really AWESOME!)

inycepoo,

I got the link by googling “combined admissions programs University of Rochester”

And thanks MConklin for checking the issue out for us! I appreciate it .

Good luck!

Things seem to be working from our end as well. Any luck inycepoo?

Um…not really.
The link from above still doesn’t work and I can’t find a pdf version of it on the website, even after Googling what bailey42 did.

No worries though, it was only just a tad bit of curiosity on my part, nothing serious.

Thanks for the help though, MConklin.

I don’t think many college reps hang around CC all that much to help us confused (and over-pressured) applicants :)

I am also applying to REMS, and I really can’t find where they list the REMS faculty members… If you have any luck with that please let me know?

inycepoo - I am happy to help!

rscupcake - Faculty members are not designated specifically to the REMS program. For a listing of medical school faculty by subject area, I recommend perusing the following link: [Browse Profiles - University of Rochester Medical Center](<a href=“People - University of Rochester Medical Center”>People - University of Rochester Medical Center)

Otherwise, the best source of information is the faculty directly on the University of Rochester’s main page.

I hope that this helps!

Thanks!

I am almost done sending my application but I have a question regarding interviews. The REMS application page says that an interview is highly recommended. Does that mean I have to schedule the interview or am I called for an interview based on how the admissions office likes my application?

You should schedule an undergraduate admissions interview by contacting your alum interviewer on the MyRoc page, but the admissions office chooses who gets the REMS interview; the latter will be on campus at UR.

I’m really looking forward to the on-campus one. (if I’m lucky enough, that is :p)
