REMS Chances

I recieved the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award and got interested in Rochester

GPA: unweighted: 4.0 / weighted 4.76

SATI: 2350 (800 Math, 790 Critical Reading, 760 Writing) - single sitting, 10th grade

SATII: 740 Biology-M and 750 Literature. Taking Math2 and MAYBE chem in October

AP: Calc BC, Biology, English Language&Comp, World History, US Government Statistics all 5.

Taking AP Literature&Comp and AP Chemistry as a senior. Self Study for AP Psychology

Race: Indian
Sex: Male

Classes Taken that may be of significance
H. Anatomy and Physiology
Biotechnology (Montgomery County refuses to offer this for Honors credit even though it's quite difficult, even for an honors level class. High workload)
AP Calc BC, Stat, Lang, World, NSL, Biology, (Chemistry and Lit senior year)
C++
Spanish up to level 3H (I know it's low but if I didn't take biotechnology as a junior, I wouldn't have my NIH Internship)

Senior Schedule:
Piano (Fine Arts credit)
AP Literature
AP Chemistry
Internship

The internship in question is the HHMI NIH Internship, which is a full-year research internship at the National Institutes of Health. I'm in a PET Radiopharmaceuticals Lab synthesizing new molecular precursors that will be radioactively tagged (adjacent lab, I can't do it without at least a Masters in Chemistry) and used for clinical trials to diagnose alzhiemers. It's a lot of organic chemistry! (5 days a week for about 20 hours during school year, and 40 hours a week this summer for 3 months... so it's ~1200 lab hours total)

Other EC:
Debate and Forensics team Captain, made county Finals in both. (going on 4 years)
It's Academic Team Vice President (same)
President of Environmental Club (2 years)
NHS Secretary
Key Club (going on 4 years)
SADD (going on 2 years)
Literary Magazine (the one year we had it)
Young Republicans (just started last year)
Science Club (2 years)

Activities / Awards:
National Merit Semifinalist (might be a finalist, who knows?)
Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award - University of Rochester
1 Week Biomedical Science program at University of MD - College Park sponsored by HHMI (howard hughes medical institute)
2 Day symposium on evolution - sponsored by HHMI (gosh they really like me!)
~ 400 service hours
Allworld Language Consultants Award (10th, 11th grade. Essay about how my school promotes diversity)

Also, the campus looks very... suburban. Is there much to do nearby? How's the social life? I'm thinking of majoring in neuroscience if I do get into REMS and attend.

Does receiving the award increase my chances of getting into REMS?

I am applying to REMS too, but my stats are not nearly impressive as yours. I think you have a good shot. After all, I can't imagine anyone else with better stats. What scale is your weighted GPA on? 5.33? Also, how did you manage to have a 4.0 GPA? You never got an A-? That is very impressive.

The campus looks suburban, but the college is in a city. The social life is diverse (frats and studious people).

I don't think receiving an award increases your chances of getting in REMS.

What other schools are you applying to? You should apply to other direct medical programs just in case.

What the hell did your parents feed you when you were little?

The Campus is technically city. However, UR is isolated from the city area itself by, literally, a river. The side of the river we are on is predominatly UR property, which includes Strong Memorial Hospitol and LLE facility.

The only part of campus taht is actually in the city is the Eastman School of Music, so unless you're planning on double majoring in Music performance and Microbiology and choose to live in Eastman res tower, the campus is very suburbany. Very green, little vehicle traffic and lots of squirrels that climb trees and throw acorns at you.

Hahaa... thanks Khan, that made me laugh.

And Arthur! Way to not tell me about the awesome squirrels when we talked earlier. I'll be visiting in a couple weeks, I can't make the visit right now because it's out of the way compared to other colleges I'm applying to. When are you supposed to start your fall term?

You better be on woodchuck watch too...

hahaha...squirrels! lol...that's so funny...actually i do see quite a bit of wildlife around here lol...seriously...i saw this furry thing outside my window this morning...dunno if it's a groundhog/really brownish cat/idk...but it was pretty large to be a squirrel haha...yeah, i was walking up to rush rhees and this squirrel pegged this acorn at me...man i was angry...i tried wrestling it, but it was soo strong so it started messing with my backpack and then i tried pulling its tail but it wouldnt come off lol....alright, i'm getting carried away...nothing of the sort ever happened, but one thing that's crazy here are the bees...the yellow jackets (which happens to be the mascot as well) are so numerous here...
