What are peoples means of transportation?
Flying into ROC or BUF or driving?

Rochester’s airport is only about 15 minutes from campus. If you fly in there, either an admission rep or the UR shuttle bus will pick up and take you to campus for your interview weekend. The Buffalo airport is about an hour to an hour and half away depending on traffic and road conditions, so you’ll need to make arrangements to get from Buffalo to Rochester.

There’s also an Amtrak station in Rochester. One more alternative.

Good luck to all of this year’s candidates!

any idea of the stats needed for these scholarships?

son applied by common app just before deadline, website updated last week to show his mid terms had arrived (up until then said app was not complete…so may be a while before we hear anything if they didnt start looking at his app until grades arrived) but if he could possibly be in the running for scholarship would hope the delay didnt result in missing it if his stats were in line

parent56, finalists for the Renaissance Scholarships have already been notified. The midterm report missing was of no consequence. MConklin, the admissions rep on these boards, has said that they do review apps before the midyear report comes in.

Rochester has a lot of other scholarships that don’t require interviews, though.

thanks chedva! good to know

Chedva: Are you saying that all Renaissance finalists will get their decisions in the first wave aka now? And a missing midyear has no effect on that?

Here’s what MConklin said in a different thread:

Yes, Renaissance finalists get their decisions in sufficient time to make plans for the interview weekend. I believe it’s fairly soon.

And about the midyear reports:

Thank you so much Chedva!

I would like to know how many students will have parents attending this event with him? Or how many students are going alone? Would it be abnormal to go without a parent?

Shay–

Parents are definitely NOT expected to attend. There are no activities for parents and parental expenses are not reimbursable.

Most candidates arrive on their own sans parental units. It’s the usual way things and not at all abnormal.

BTW, since you will staying with a student host, you will need to bring a sleeping bag, pillow and towels. You may [will probably] be sleeping on the floor of your host’s dorm room.

hi, does anyone here know if it is possible to have interview via skype?

i live in europe= expensive flight to u.s. + i don’t have visa card+ i have my final exams around interviews’ time.

Thread resurrection!

ogar100, Skype IV’s are an option, but I would recommend that you contact your Admissions Counselor via email or phone. The toll free number is 1-888-822-2256.

This must mean that you have received your Renaissance invitation, congratulations!

Were these notifications sent snail mail? I am assuming that my empty in box and mail box means I can kiss this scholarship chance goodbye. I am curious as to what the top contenders’ profiles are like.

Congratulations and good luck to those of you going for the interview.

I am also wondering about bjorn1’s question.

Yes, Renaissance invites are paper invitations. D2’s arrived by Fed Ex back in 2008.

Here’s link to some Ren winner profiles:

Hello, I read ogar100’s thread. I’m an international Renaissance finalist as well and I am really interested in visiting the campus for the final interviews. However, I cannot make a final decision before knowing about my travel expenses. Are we offered a Skype option as well? I called the office but the representative was not there. Thanks!

HI Inter814. I was just curious, which country are you from and when did you get your renaissance invitation? Would really like to know

hey guys,
it turns out i can have my interview via skype which is really cool for me.

I’m coming my train and super excited
Is it one-third of those invited will receive this generous award or one-third of those who actually attend

they give the award to about 20 of the finalists, but you only get the award if you attend soo…

anyway, does anybody know when do they notify those who actually got the award?
