<p>My S is one of many R Medalists. He applied RD. any ideas on when and how he will be notified on the amount of the award?</p>
<p>He will likely be notified when he receives his acceptance or soon after. I believe the minimum amount is 15K per year, For each of 4 years,and it is not grade dependent.</p>
<p>RPI tends to notify about admissions around 2nd saturday in March and notify the scholarship amounts a week later, again on a saturday. This was our experience last year.</p>
<p>We were sad… We tried to get our school to participate. They actually got permission to nominate someone (we were hoping it would be our son) but then did not actually nominate anyone… arghhh. Ah well, we’re hopeful that he’ll get a decent merit offer anyway.</p>

<p>Kd94025- his chances of getting a decent merit award are very good, as last year 344 students (most of the students who did not get financial aid) got merit scholarships averaging over $15,500 (see page 20 in the common data set):</p>

<p>Zingerdad- I do not remember from last year on this board, but I would think it is possible to get an RPI medal award of more than $15,000, since RPI is now saying on their website that it is a minimum of $15,000 and since the average merit scholarship was over $15,000 last year.</p>

<p>RPI Medalists receive the amount from the RPI medal in the main financial aid package, which is sent out about a week after regular decision notifications. </p>
<p>They also may get more then the $15k minimum. I am a medalist and got a little more than double the $15,000.</p>
<p>They were both letters in email/email link to their portal. RPI announces what time the admission announcements come out a week or so in advance.</p>
<p>Cortana did quite well and happens to attend RPI. I can’t say not every gets double or more than the minimum based on what I saw. $15k is considered a starting point but some may just stay at the starting point.</p>

<p>My D is also a Medalist, and she received her financial award at the same time as her ED acceptance. She logged into her RPI account to get the information on the date that acceptance letters were available. Also, her award was higher than the minimal amount, so it is possible to receive an award higher than 15K.</p>

<p>At many high schools, the awarding of the RPI Medal is done at the award assembly at the end of the school year.</p>
<p>Dadinator is that at the end of the junior or senior year? I think DS school only does awards for seniors so does that mean he wouldn’t know until end of next year?</p>

<p>If the school doesn’t give any awards to juniors at your award assembly, then the school would just have to give it to him separately.</p>
<p>The guidance office at my daughter’s school notified her at the end of junior year, but we did not find out the exact amount until she was ED accepted and we received the financial letter. She received recognition in the local paper and will be recognized at the awards assembly this year.</p>
