***Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute ED Discussion Thread***

Are you Applying ED to RPI? Post your thoughts/predictions/whatever in this forum! I didn't see one of these threads already, so I decided to create one.

BTW, I am already a freshman at RPI, but this extremely good college has a dead forum. So I am going to revive it.

I know it’s not relevant to the thread, but could you give me some advice on RD applications? I am in the west coast, have a 2060 SAT, 4.0 GPA, and tons of engineering-specific EC’s… I want to major in computer engineering as well…

Well you should definitely apply to RPI. But also consider Berkeley and CMU. But you should really be posting this in the general engineering thread…

My S is counting the days. He really enjoyed his time at RPI this summer in their aerospace program. Fingers crossed…

Weighing in as a parent. RPI has been a great fit for my son, and from a parent’s perspective all the administrative stuff has been handled well by RPI.

1214mom - “fit” is the right word, as an alum of RPI, I know it’s not for everyone but it appears to be the right choice for my son. Glad to hear that your son is happy there!BTW, my son is a double legacy (both parents) so it may be in the genes for him to attend but we’ll see what RPI thinks next week…

well what are your kids’ stats? He’ll have no problem getting in if his math scores are good.

SAT superscore, M 770, CR 590, W 630. It’s the CR that has me a little concerned. He tried the test twice, took a prep class, and practiced a whole bunch but he does not do well with the reading passage questions. He would score higher if all the passages came from Scientific American!

Good luck to you all, my son applied RD so I envy you the shorter wait! RPI has been at the top of his list since we visited this summer.

Thanks and good luck to your son as well!

My son applied RD. RPI is his first choice-we visited twice and loved it both times. We toured alot of other schools too and although he liked a few others, RPI was his favorite. He said it just felt the most comfortable to him. Good luck to all!

to nhmom, I am pretty sure your son will get in, RPI strongly considers the math score. So with that math score I think he’ll be fine.

to CSMathAsa1994, thanks for the good thoughts, 5 more days!

I am applying ED to RPI this December. I have been counting down the days ever since school went back in session after thanksgiving. Does anybody here know how they are going to send out the decisions? I heard that in past years they sent all the applicants a link to their decision letter via email on decision day ( in this case this year it would be the 14th). I also heard that it the links don’t get sent until like 7 pm eastern time on decision day -.- how am I supposed to wait that long? Does anyone have any other more updated info on how and when RPI is gonna let their applicants know their decisions?

Thanks,
CC

Good luck to everyone!

One tip would be to get your deposit in as soon as you can, as housing assignments will be based on the date of deposit.

ccutrone13, you get it on the website, and then you receive it by normal mail a few days later

By the website do you mean on the site where you login to check your application status?

Are the decisions being released Friday?

Friday is the 14 so yes they are. However it’s likely they will not be released until Friday evening, because that’s what happened in past years when RPI sent out their admissions decisions. Point is dont expect to get it at midnight between Thursday and Friday :p

Runmiles, I’m guessing u also applied ED?
