***Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute ED Discussion Thread***

Good luck to everyone that applied ED!

I have a questions regarding RD applications as my son applied that way. Does RPI do rolling decisions for RD or do we have to wait until March?

Based on prior years, unfortunately, you will have to wait until March.

Yes I applied ED and I have been “unofficially” accepted (I am planning on doing sports there and the coach showed my app to admissions and they said everything looked good and that if I didn’t do anything stupid they will offer me a spot in the freshman class). I just want to official paper badly.

Applied ED I with a 1510 (770M 740R)
Pathetic gpa (3.5) and class rank ( Top 42%) with consistently lowest grades in math…

Hoping math teacher of two years recommendation will offset the grade… trying to be optimistic.

Good Luck All! Post whether you got in or not sometime over this weekend…

And what TIME would it come out the 14th?

^Pretty sure you’ll get an email when decisions are available. Last year RD were available in the evening, I think around 6-7 p.m.

I called the admissions office yesterday to ask about that and they said there will be an email but also the letter can be found on the site where login to check the status of your application. They also said there was no specific time as to when the decision would come out so it might not necessarily be in the evening, it may be earlier, or later (hopefully not :/) here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to be keeping my email open all day along with my application status page. I’ll keep them both open while keeping my fingers crossed. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for all the rest of you as well. I wish you all the best :)

Despite what they said, my guess would still be after 5:00 PM.

(Then they don’t have to worry about the phones ringing of the hook as soon as the decisions come out. If they release decisions after 5:00 PM, everyone has a night to sleep on it before the office re-opens.)

Good luck everyone!!

That’s a good point. I was expecting them come out at around the evening time anyways. Also does anybody know how we would go about withdrawing all our other applications to other schools if we get accepted ED to RPI?

An email to the Admissions Office at each of the other schools should suffice.

I hope you will soon be in a position so that you have to send those emails out, ccutrone13!

Thank you appreciate it! In fact after Friday I hope that everyone involved in this thread is in the same boat!

I’m know this may be a bit late but would any of you be willing to tell me what you think my chances are for getting in? Let me know and thanks.
I’m a half white half Asian female who took the act and got a 35 super scored, my GPa is about a 3.7 unweighted. I also intend to major in BME and then go on to med school.

If u need more info which I’m sure you probably do,then just let me know :)

Assuming you took high level classes and your math ACT was pretty high you should be fine.

You will certainly get in ccutrone13. I’m also a biomed engineering major concentrating in pre med (first year), so I can help you if you have any questions on courses (for ones i’ve taken this semester and next semester), volunteering, research, etc and being a pre med here.

My highest ACT math Score is a 36 and i have taken pretty much all honors and AP level classes.
and cortana431, you sound exactly like me in the future and I would definitely be interested in all your valuable knowledge about BME and the pre med program. Definitely giving me some idea of the courses for BME and pre med would really help, along with other Pre med tips as well. By the way u since you said you were concentrating on premed, how do you go about doing that. Was that something you had to indicate on your application or was it one of the special programs that were listed (ie is it part of like say RPI’s accelerated med/premed program?). Or do you decide to concentrate on pre med like once you attended the school like after you were admitted? If you could clarify this for me that would be awesome.

Seriously you are like a godsend, im happy to have met someone through CC whos basically one step ahead of me with the path I intend to take for college and beyond! (:

i should probably also note that i was accepted and participated in the the RPI STAR Program…and they said that the people that participated in that were students that they were for the most part interested in accepting to the school…

heres a link for information

Let me know if you have any questions about the BME/premed curriculum. I’m a senior and hearing back from med schools now about my acceptances.

Please though, for the love of god, do not say you are “concentrating in pre-med”… It makes you look really silly.

Okay first of all I only used the phrase “concentrating in premed” because the person who posted before me used that phrase and honestly I didn’t know any better way that it should be said. So don’t accuse me of looking silly when they aren’t even my words.k thanks :)

Well I guess my reply was primarily aimed towards Cortana, but yeah. Just for clarification, “pre-med” is not a major at RPI. It is merely a term used to describe a student who thinks they want to go to medical school. There were probably like 40 BME students in my class who thought they wanted to go to medical school, and now I’m graduating with probably about 10 that I can count.

If you “know” that you want to go to medical school, BME is not the correct major. It is really just too much work and does not prepare you for the MCATs at all. You will be taking like 8 extra classes for the medical school prereqs that are not needed for your degree, and will thus require many almost full semesters. Unless you are brilliant, there is a fairly high chance your GPA will suffer. Outside of EC’s and leadership/volunteering, your MCATs and GPA are huge in your application so any way of ensuring that they are high will give you the greatest shot at medical school.

This just in everyone. RPI posted this on their facebook admissions page after someone asked them “How will the early decision applicants be notified of the results of their application?”

Their Answer:
Rensselaer Admissions (RPI): "Students who applied EDI will receive an email from us in the next few days with the specifics- but the decisions will be posted online at 7PM EST on Friday evening. You will need to log into the application status website to view your decision. "

Glad I now have this cleared up and now its cleared up for all of you as well (:

ps: 7 freaking PM eastern time!!! :open_mouth: how am i supposed to wait that long???
