<p>Can someone help me pick out which of the two(Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute or University of Rochester) should i consider applying? I want to study science; chemical engineering, medicine or anything similar to that field.. Anyone attend any of these schools? let me know about the experience or anything i should know...
My stats are as follows:
I'm going to apply to the HEOP program because I am low income and my stats aren't that great either.
MY GPA is 92/95 which is roughly about 3.8.
I'm ranked in the 80s our of 820 people.
SAT currently: CR 430, M 670, W 560.. I'm going to retake in November to bring up my CR score hopefully.

<p>I don’t believe your stats are competitive for U Rochester. I’m not that familiar with RPI.</p>

<p>Yes i have plenty of Safeties like SUNYs and CUNYs. and Yes I am a New Yorker. University at Rochester said that they have test options. I can submit my AP scores if i want instead of SATs… I got a 3 and a 4. Should i submit that with it?</p>
<p>Why do you havce to decide? Why not apply to both? If your income is low enough, you could get a fee waiver.</p>
<p>Both of them are pretty big reaches for you. I would apply to both, if you want you could apply to one of them ED to help your chances and the other RD. Good luck.</p>
<p>I would actually say Rochester is a good match for you (DON’T SEND YOUR SAT OR AP SCORES). Your GPA and Rank is in their higher range.</p>

<p>I ask this to everyone: How the hell do people get good grades and class rank and barely scratch 75% on the SAT?</p>
<p>Look at the Common Data Set (section C) at each school to see where you have the best shot. It would be better to apply to both if possible.
What about RIT? Might be easier to get into.</p>
<p>Hello lilmelonred, My son goes to RPI studying CS there. He got accepted into CMU, UCLA, USC, Rose-Hulman and few other colleges. But decided to attend RPI, as he wants to go a technical school. CMU was too expensive for us to send him there. He got very good 4-yr scholarship from RPI. He had GPA of 4.35/5.0, ACT Composite score 35. He was a national merit scholar. We are from California but he is adjusting to the cold weather well and very happy at RPI. If you plan to study engg or CS, RPI is one of the top choices. According to Business Insider magazine, RPI is ranked 4th among the best engineering school in the world, right after Caltech, MIT and Stanford. I want to warn you thou’, according to my son, it’s very very competitive in RPI. There are lot of smart kids go to RPI and if you are not strong in math or science, you will struggle there. RIT is a good second-tied engg. college and less competitive. Even if you got accepted at RPI, do some more research before you decide which one to attend in April. Good Luck. </p>
<p>RPI is not that far (2 hours) from NYC, RIT is basically the country in my opinion (near Buffalo). That could be a factor in terms of travel and things to do when not studying, and also when trying to find a job when you graduate.</p>
<p>My friend went to SUNY Buffalo and could only find a job out there and the pay was atrocious. RPI is near Albany but also near enough to NYC, CT, and NJ to find some good job opportunities. RIT is not close to much.</p>
