can you rent a microwave and mini-fridge from ucsd for the school year? i know some other colleges do this, but i tried searching through ucsd's dining and housing site and i found nothing of the sort. sorry if it's already been addressed in previous threads; i did a search but didn't find any info.

yeah, you can rent one. it's not bad to share the price (and space) with your roommate. your college will have info once you move in.

My D stopped into Revelle ResLife office today and asked for info re renting a minifridge. She was told that there are no places that rent fridges and microwaves and that Revelle/UCSD does not work with any supplier to provide these items. D was told to just go to target online and order a fridge, but target will not deliver to the dorms.

Astrina, if you know of stores or companies who rent these items, please do tell! Thanks :)

yeah they deliver microwave/mini-fridge to yoru doorstep

the company's called micro101. google it and you'll find their website with prices. i personally think it's way expensive considering you can BUY a refrigerator with that money.

microwave + refrigerator = $183
just refrigerator = $143

or something like that

with that money, why not just buy one?

You should compare the size of the micro fridge to one you could buy at Target. My sons both had ones that could be had for about $100 at Target and Costco.

Nephew ordered a micro-fridge and was disappointed at the interior space and how it didn't fit his water filtration device. Plus he was sharing with two other roomates. Too expensive for what he got.

If you can buy a microwave and a fridge you might be better off.

Good luck!

All the on-campus residence halls should be equipped with a standard microwave already. Granted, they're pretty gross and no one ever seemed to clean them, but they do the job done.

And as for mini-fridges, do a quick search on craigslist or facebook's marketplace for a used one. I remember when I moved out, I sold mine to a friend of a friend for $50--the going rate for most used ones at the time.

actually, warren res hall didnt have a microwave - not sure about the others.

I called micro 101. They only provide rental units to UC Berkeley students. I asked in the Revelle ResLife office today and they told me that several years ago they had an arrangement with some company to provide rental refrigerators and microwaves but not any more.

If you want a microwave or mini-fridge you will have to buy it and schlepp it into your room. The Target on Mira Mesa Blvd only had about 4 Haier mini=fridges left this evening.
