My daughter is a sophomore and has on-campus housing lined up for junior year. She tells me she needs to find off-campus housing for senior year now due to high demand. She found a place close to campus. However, the landlord wants a deposit now (which is fine), but they also want a lease signed now. They require a parent to co-sign. I’m uncomfortable signing a lease so far in advance given how situations can change. My daughter has 2 roommates lined up, but they could easily walk away…or transfer; who knows. The other thing is that there are numerous additional fees besides electric, including water, sewer, lawn care, and a $150 deductible on any appliance repairs. I’m looking for some comments on those that have had children live off campus at Nova, as well as any advice about our situation. I’m wondering if this is the norm around Nova, or the exception. This is for a house, by the way. I’m aware of how chilly the local community can be toward Nova students…I’m an alum.
