Anyone buy renters' insurance for their kids? How did you decide whether to do it?

Thanks!

I would suggest that you contact your personal insurance agent. My daughter's contents are covered under our policy at no additional expense and we were able to put a liability rider on for $11.00.

Oops...I should say that this was for the daughter in the off campus house. I was told that my daughter on campus was fully covered. Again, best to check with your agent.

Agree with checking with your insurance company to get the particulars.

Our insurance company, USAA, still includes dependent daughter under our policy, even when living in an off-campus apartment. I had naturally assumed we'd have to buy renter's insurance. It was one of the few nice financial surprises we've had since putting our two in college.

I bought insurance through College student insurance program. Less than $100 for $6,000 worth of coverage for personal property. We are in CA and son is on campus on the East Coast. My homeowner's doesn't cover his cel phone, computer etc...plus he has a nice (big screen ) TV because he is in a suite style dorm...

Our homeowners insurance covers my S's property. He lives in a dorm.
