Our son is graduating with his BS in June 2016 and is applying for a fifth year to obtain his teaching credential. Does anyone know whether the student starts paying back his student loans immediately (Direct Sub and Perkins) after the grace periods end or is the student still considered a student which would allow him to postpone repayment until after he has completed his fifth year/teacher credential program. I have looked high and low for an answer to this with no luck so I would appreciate any information that anyone is able to share.
Still a student
So no exit counseling, selection of repayment plan, etc.? Do you just assume that the lender(s) know that the student is continuing with his/her education? Are there any forms you have to fill out to notify them? Thanks.
I think the student or the school will have to contact the lender to let them know he’s still in school.
