Hello! I have a couple questions about repeating ninth grade at a boarding school.

a) Is it easier to get accepted?
b) Will you feel awkward in class with somebody one year younger than you?
c) Will school be "boring" because you are taking the course again?
d) Will it strengthen your academic achievements? Leading to better grades and better college matriculation?
e) How do colleges view repeat students?

Thank you for your answers!

a) Is it easier to get accepted?
I’m not quite sure as I don’t work in Admissions or anything, but If you can be in more challenging classes as a freshman, I’m sure that’s a plus. Also, if you’re very athletic [and especially if you’re a boy], it means you have an extra year of development/practice under your belt.
b) Will you feel awkward in class with somebody one year younger than you?
No. There are older students [and grade divisions are less rigid than I remember them being in public school] and plenty of repeats to boot.
c) Will school be “boring” because you are taking the course again?
No. I’m almost certain you’d be placed in whatever math, science and language levels you’re qualified for; if you’ve already thoroughly covered material in history [say, for instance, freshmen usually take US history and you’ve taken a year of it already], they’d likely put you in another class as well; really the most repetitive i could see something getting is if you had to read something you’d already read in English.
d) Will it strengthen your academic achievements? Leading to better grades and better college matriculation?
Possibly. If you’re somewhat below average, it might mean that you take courses at grade level and are therefore not at a disadvantage. If you’re already at grade level, then you will be ahead which is, of course, an advantage. I certainly can’t speak for what your grades in those courses would be–making it to BC Calc in high school means nothing if you’re a bad student. But if you’re capable and work hard, repeating is definitely a plus.
e) How do colleges view repeat students?
No clue.

In short, I wish I’d repeated. Sucks to be young.
