Repeat SAT or First-time SAT2?

Hi all,

My daughter (will be Senior in Fall 2013) would really like to improve her SAT score in Math as she got a 630 in the March test. She overall has a 2180 with 750 in CR and 800 in W.
She is wishing to pursue a career in Psychology and she intends to do Psychiatry after her B.A.

That being her goal, she is wondering whether her first priority is to take SAT2 tests in Oct 2013 or her repeat-SAT in Oct 2013. This would leave Nov to do the other SAT in Nov 2013.
My opinion was that since she has a decent score in SAT overall, that she should focus on her essay and SAT2 tests. Am I correct ?

The thing that I want to know is whether SAT2 tests would work to her advantage even in schools that do not specify SAT2 as a requirement? I mean, will she be at an advantage just because she took SAT2 (and assuming she did well) even if the college never said it needed it? Or would it be a waste of time to do SAT2 tests? She is planning on doing SAT Biology and SAT Spanish subject tests.

In addition to the preparation for tests above, she will be traveling very soon to Asia soon for 4-6 weeks to get a rejuvenating/cleansing treatment for her chronic conditions after repeated spinal surgeries. So, this means, she will be missing the first few weeks of her Senior year as well. I am trying to help her prioritize what she must do and what may be optional.

So, any advice to help us plan her next few months would be very helpful!

Thanks

Check which colleges your daughter will apply to. Some colleges will require two SAT II tests; for example, MIT requires a math (either Level 1 or 2) and a science (Bio E/M, Chem, or Physics) Subject Test, while other schools only require Math II.

The majority of colleges claim that SAT II’s don’t matter much in admissions. Check which colleges she’ll apply to.
