Repeat Sophomore at Deerfield

Ok, so I'm going to Deerfield in September of 2011 and I am repeating my sophomore year. I want to repeat Algebra II since the math program at my school is kind of week. Will they even count my Sophomore year from my public high school, or will they just take my second sophomore year? I'm very confused, because I don't know if I should continue working hard in school and get all A's or just settle with B or two. Can someone help me!?

i’m going to be a repeat soph at deerfield too, in the exact same position! My math program is absolutlely awful, my teacher currently has no idea how to teach.

I hope somebody answers this! I’m nervous if i repeat alg 2 colleges will look badly on it.

I don’t think they will, especially if they don’t even see the first Sophomore year. The way I look at it is I could get an A in algebra II and then an A in precalc instead of going into precalc not knowing what’s going on and getting a B. I think that would look worse.

Have you talked to the admissions people about how that works? I think that both sophomore years show up when applying for college. But my best guess as to which one to take is based on the placement test and advisor’s advice you’ll be put in the right class.

Yeah I guess it makes sense that they would look at both our years but you never know. I emailed a women from the admissions office but she sill hasn’t replied. I think they send us a test sometime soon so we can be placed into whatever math and language is best for us. Do you know what science you’ll be taking, I took bio last year and I am in Chemistry now so I don’t know what I will take when I get there.

I haven’t talked to the admissions people recently so I guess revisit I’ll ask about how this whole repeat thing works.
And same! It says on deerfields website freshman usually take physics… I’ve taken bio and chem too, so i’m assuming we’d both just be placed in physics? It’s an 11th grade or senior course at my current school so i’m sure various schools have different sequence of science too and we won’t be the only ones taking physics as sophomores.

Yeah, second day visit would probably be best to ask. They will know. I’m so excited to be going…it doesn’t seem real yet! Haha
