OK.

That's good to know.

In terms of African American applicants, I'm not too worried about that. I mean, they're international schools so I'm sure that diversity definitely isn't a problem.

Not as many girls? That's OK too. Most of my closer friends are guys anyway.

Do the recommendations have to come from your current teachers, or can they come from past teachers? Just because usually, you're supposed to have English and math, but I've only had my current math teacher for about 2 weeks, so she probably doesn't have a whole lot to say. The first math teacher I had this year though could say a lot (in the positive sense). He was also my teacher in 9th grade, so he actually knows me, and I know that he would write a recommendation for me, he did for TASS last year.

I don't know what I got on the PSAT. I don't get that score until December...But I probably did pretty well. The only sections that were hard were the math sections, but they weren't terrible.

In terms of my parents, I don't know how they'd feel about the UWCs unless I went to the one in the US or Canada, just because they don't really want me to be that far away from home...

It sounds like you are seriously thinking about it -- which I think is good. I think it would be a great option for you.

first -- you are correct, diversity is not a problem. In fact, I don't think you could find a more diverse school. The lack of African Americans is just that -- kids from the US. there are plenty of kids attending the schools that are African. (In fact, Nelson Mandela is one of the heads of the UWC committee and his kids attended a UWC). The tip you would have is when you apply, the USA committee doesn't get alot of African American applicants -- which could help you a little.

The number of boys and girls at the schools is equal -- where it helps you is that more boys seem to apply, decreasing your competition.

I don't have a chance right now -- but if you go to the link, you should be able to pull up the application. I think you can send recommendations from your choice of teachers.

If you are selected as a Davis Scholar (the kids who get to go) you get to list the schools you want to go to in the order of preference -- and most kids want to go overseas, so if you want to go to the US school, you could definitely do that -- tell you parents that and it might make them feel better. Keep in mind, though, that New Mexico is pretty far from the east coast! you still wouldn't be close.

Ask your parents to read the website -- I know that I was impressed when my son showed it to me.

Alright. Thanks.

I realize that New Mexico is pretty far from the east coast, but it's a heck of a lot closer than any of the other schools! Plus, me being in the US would probably make my parents feel better just because it's domestic and whatnot.

I think that going abroad would be really cool though!
