Hi
I am a grade 11 student at a high school in Alberta Canada. I am currently doing grade 12 math (Math 30) and getting around 84 percent. I know Mcgill demand quiet a high average for the courses you submit and I feel I need to improve my mark. To do that, I am thinking of repeating the course at a summer school or even at school next year when I have a spare. Would that hurt my chance of getting into Mcgill?

One more thing, what are some of the most popular majors that are NOT associated with sciences (especially physics and chem) and what are the 6 subjects I need to submit for them and the average I should be getting(percentage-wise from Canadian high school) ?

I am quite worried about my grades right now and I hope I can get some good advices from here!

what are your other marks like? It's hard to tell whether repeating the course would be a good idea without having any idea of what else you like.

In terms of popular programs, I know that Political Science and International Development are quite big here. But then you have to ask yourself, do you really want to be in a big popular program? There are pros and cons to being in a big program vs being in a smaller one.

It's hard to give you advice about what to study without knowing what sort of fields you like :) Arts, business, life sciences, do you have a general idea what faculty you'll be applying for? How much that math grade will matter will largely depend on where you're headed. You sound pretty focused, though, I think you should be okay to get in.

well, I am more of an art person than science. I think buisness suits me a lot too. The thing is I got no other 30 courses right now but in general I am getting about the same as what I am getting in math, which I am not too sure are good enough for such prestigious school as Mcgill. But I am definately going to work hard to get higher in grade 12 (btw I heard they only look at your grade 12 courses and consider others not as important, is it true?) I hear a lot of engineering courses demands you to have averages of 90 + and I only hope that this is not the same for Arts and business.

If you're thinking of engineering, then sure you might want to up your GPA a bit to the 90s. But if you're thinking of arts, then 89% or so is the median entering average, so it's not too hard to get in.

Good luck and don't worry too much about repeating a course or anything. I don't think McGill will really mind/care, as long as your final GPA is above 86% or so.
