Repeating a Year?

Okay, so I did a search on this and nothing came up. I'm sure there's threads for this, I'm probably just doing it completely wrong, >_>

Anyhow, can you guys answer my questions or direct me to threads that have info on the subject? Thanks!

Is repeating a year mandatory in some cases? Which ones?
Can you only repeat freshman year?
Can you choose to repeat a year even if you don't need to?
What are the benefits to repeating a year?
What are the downsides to repeating a year?
Will it increase my chances if I repeat a year? Will it decrease them?
Should I take the SSAT as an eighth grader or something if I want to repeat a year?
Will I room with someone my age or my grade?
Is it easier to get financial aid?
Do you have more opportunities by repeating a year? Less?
Would you or would you not recommend repeating a year?

Excuse my horrible grammar. Thanks so much! ;D

That’s a lot of questions! I’ll take a crack at them.

1). Yes, there are times that a school will offer admission with the requirement that the student repeat. This is usually with struggling students, and not at the top tier schools

2). No, you can repeat any year. junior year repeat is popular.

3). Yes, you can chose. Just have a good reason when they ask you why.

4). & 5). Benefits are there for kids who are young for their class, had a poor academic year, etc. otherwise there is no specific benefit

No easier for financial aid. You’ll room with someone in your grade.

If you are a boy and are young for your class, it’s a good idea. At some schools more than 1/3 of the 9th grade boys are repeats. If you are a mature with good grades, it probably isn’ta good idea, in my opinion
