HI,
So I went to UCI for my freshman year for fall and winter quarter only. I left and went to a CC because of bad grades and didn’t like it there. Do you know if the classes I take at CC will replace my UCI classes that I took and change my gpa? Or any information on this… Thank You.
From the UC website:
For transfer applicants, a course may be repeated if the student received a grade of D or F. UC does not limit the number of times a transfer student may repeat a course in which they earned a D or F. A student may not retake a course at a community college to raise a grade received at a UC campus. UC courses in which a D or F was received may be repeated only at a UC campus.
If you plan to transfer to another UC, then the courses cannot be repeated at a CC.
If you plan to transfer to a Cal state or private, I would check with your counselor at your CC.
^ do note that it is possible that some individual departments will not allow this override for certain purposes.
At Berkeley for example, students need to get a 3.3 GPA from a set of chosen classes in order to declare for CS. It used to be that students, if they were say at a C, would sometimes intentionally fail classes so that they could repeat the class again and do better the next time. The department then changed their policy, stating that the failed course would also count in the GPA calculation for the 3.3 gauntlet determination.
