During my freshman year I failed a Trigonometry course worth 2 credits and I have to retake it this semester. Do you think medical schools would look down upon one failed course? How would it change my chances?

Any failed class is never a good thing. A F damages your GPA and your academic reputation.

But unless you fail the class a second time; you give that F a bunch of Cs, Ds, and Fs to go with it; or have damaged your GPA/sGPA to a point beyond recoverability, it’s not a deal-breaker.

It won’t hurt to show them that you can retake and do well in that class but any MD medical school does not offer grade replacement, they will average both grades into your GPA, DO med schools with replace your grade with a retaken class
