Replace High school math grade

I got a C in honors algebra 2, I’m OOS so it’s not weighted on the UC GPA, should I retake it as a regular summer school class. It would be very easy to get an A in, I just want to know if an A in regular math is worth more than the C.

Does your school allow you to retake a C grade? One grade will not make you an automatic reject from the UC’s, but what is your overall application look like? Also if you want to replace that C grade, you need to retake the exact same class. You will still have to report the C regardless on the UC application.

What makes you so sure it would be “very easy” to get an A in a class where you currently have a C?

I think for UCs - you can’t replace the C.

We learned stats in the class, we didn’t learn from an algebra 2 book, one of my friends had an f and dropped to the easier class and for an A easily.

The new class wouldn’t be Honors, big difference between difficulties at my school.

I had all A’s just one C in math, so a 3.85 GPA sophomore year. If I do take a different algebra 2 class and get an A will my GPA become a 4.2 but they still show my old grade? Or it’s just added in with the other class.

If you do not retake the exact same class, then both grades will be included in your GPA. Even if you repeat the exact same class, you still have to report both grades.

What are the rules on repeating courses?

For freshman applicants, a grade of C or better is required to meet a subject requirement. D and F grades are not acceptable and must be cleared by repeating a class, completing advanced work in the same subject area of sequential knowledge (math or language other than English) or attaining certain minimum scores on SAT, AP or IB examinations .

There is no limit to the number of courses applicants may repeat. The University of California does not accept pass/fail grades for freshman admission.

If a student repeats a course used to satisfy the “a-g” requirements in which they originally earned a grade of C or higher, the repeated grade will not be used in calculating the GPA.

When a student successfully repeats a course that they failed the first time, how should the school and the student report the two courses?

The student must self-report the grades for both courses on the application, and the University will determine which course and grade will be used in the GPA calculation. Schools should follow their own or their district’s policy in recording grades.
