Report/Do Not Report AP Scores

I am planning on applying to very competitive colleges (Stanford, Columbia, Harvard, Penn). I have heard that you should not report AP scores if they are not 5's to these schools. Is that true?

I recived a 5 on AP English Language, a 5 on AP US History, and a 3 on AP Biology. The big question is whether or not I should report my AP Bio score...

Thanks for your help!

You don’t have to report them until after you are accepted. Those schools are more interested in your SAT Subject Matter scores than your AP scores.

What about 4s? If I am applying to Stanford and maybe Princeton and I have two 4s in US History and English Language, should I report those?

I don’t think 4s should hurt your chances. I got a 4 in European History and I’m reporting that to colleges when I apply (among them Cornell and Princeton).

So then 3’s are definitely too low?

Are you supposed to send AP scores as part of the application, or after you decide to accept?

I thought it was OK to just list the scores in the app, with the understanding that when you do send the scores they better match (or else!!). And then you send them when you decide to accept. Is that correct?

AP scores are self-reported on the application, an AP score report is only sent to the college where you matriculate.

You don’t have to self-report all AP scores, however, colleges may wonder why you didn’t take and/or report the test.
