Hmmm… I started this thread a while ago, but looks like it got hijacked with talk of agents, lol!! Anyway, just got the word that my daughter, NYU grad in Dec. 2009, (just had her showcase on Jan 20-21) got cast in the PCLO production of Nunsense as Amnesia, where she’ll get her equity card. Praise the lord! No more waiting in lines for equity calls only to be told “sorry; no time for nonequity people…”

Congrats Rossji! or more to the point to your D. Another success for an NYU Grad. It is so good to hear about those Grads who are making their mark out in the “REAL” world. My S. is now in Grad school but, his work in NYC is what helped get him there. Best of Lu–! and congrats! Camge

Thanks, Camge!

rossji

Congratulations to your daughter! That is amazing that she got cast and is able to get her equity card. As I remember it, didn’t she do a tour of Spelling Bee? How was it for her to go back to school after that? On some levels it must have been pretty heady to already have worked professionally. And then to get cast so quickly. Kudos to her!!!

I hope this thread keeps going. It is so much fun reading about the successes.

On the same vein, I love going to the movies with my daughter, she is constantly pointing actors out saying they were in studio or class with her. One was the older daughter in “Its Complicated” Apparently she went to Adler. I am not quite sure if she was a Tisch student or strictly Adler.

Then there is Lady Gaga who was a Cap student. They lived in the same dorm freshman year and would use the practice rooms together. My daughter still sings some of her earlier songs which are incredible(but don’t fit her current image) I went to a play with her and my daughter so I was able to “hang out” with her so I tell my nieces and nephews who think I am pretty cool to know a celebrity.

Thanks, klri! Yes, she did a Spelling Bee nonequity tour; finished up her last semester in the fall, and did showcase in January. It WAS tough for her going back to school, although it was nice for her NOT to have to be on a bus for so long! I teach middle school and when I told the kids that my d went to college with Lady Gaga, they got all excited. Of course, she didn’t KNOW her but knew OF her (Stephanie something? Don’t remember her real name!) I don’t even know what songs she sings; so out of touch! Yes, I hope this thread continues; I love to see what everyone’s doing out of school!

Two notable Broadway success stories from the 2009 Syracuse class: one is currently in West Side Story, and another was in Shrek until its recent closing.

I didn’t know that Shrek closed. I really wanted to see it. One of my daughter’s friends was a swing.

I heard great things about the Syracuse program. Isn’t it great to watch the kids flourish.

Recently, I went to see a touring company perform locally and I was lucky enough to sit next to the mother of one of the actors. He had just graduated from I think Penn State. Anyway, it was completely random that I was seated next to her. This particular show was debuting in our area and this was his first professional gig. She was as proud as a peacock. I was just so excited for her and by the end of the show we became fast friends (I explained that I knew the path her son was on).

I can’t wait for someone I actually know to be onstage.

I hope I remember when my D becomes successful not to be TOO proud. My D just finished a show at a professional theatre (ensemble part with various “Girl #1” lines). I was sitting in my seat before the show when several women took their seats next to me. As the show had not started, I could not help but hear the lady one seat over from me say very loudly to her friends/family, “I would take pictures, but every time I get my camera out, [First-name-of-producer] makes me put it away. hahahahaha.” Then later she said something about [First-name-of-music-director] said thus and so. I doubt many of the people knew who she was talking about, but I did. At intermission I asked if she had someone in the show. Her son was playing the leading male role. He was fabulous, by the way, but I made a mental note to never act like that. I hope you all make that note, too. LOL

Musicmom, I have also had a similar experience and have vowed not to act like that either. My husband and I hold hands then we squeeze them tight when he first “opens his mouth” (to sing) then we look at each other smile, sometimes sigh. That is enough for us!

srw, that is so sweet.
Back on topic, my D earned points toward her equity card in this show. The theatre scene is not very active in this area right now, but she is committed to stay around until the summer as she is teaching beginner dance classes through the end of May. (oof topic: Teaching 4-7 year-olds has only reinforced her belief that she doesn’t like kids. I fear I will never be a grandma!)

Musicmom, LOL! You never know, I didn’t really like kids all of that much either, but I ended up loving being a mom. That’s wonderful that she is getting her points, I know it can be hard. Keep us posted on her progress.

One of the boys who went to high school with my D, and recently graduated from NYU (2007) was just cast in the National Tour of Spamalot. :)

Keep this thread going for any of you out there who have kids graduating this year. It’s so much fun to read about the ones who have had successes, especially realizing that successes come in all shapes and sizes!

Here’s another Spamalot success story – a friend of my D’s, who graduates this year from Syracuse will be going on that same tour.

An off to a good start story. My daughter graduates this spring bfa mt. She has had several offers for work this summer. Chose one that gives equity points. But then was offered a job where she will automatically get her equity card. Was also offered a role on a noneq national tour. Still sorting it all out but it looks like she will be working after graduation for a good length of time. So off to a great start and we’ll see what the future brings. Also had alot of agent offers from showcase and has secured one as well. :)

^^^Sounds wonderful in every aspect! Congrats to your daughter!

Congratulations musicalmom!!! Keep us posted!

CONGRATS musicalmom!!

How exciting… congrats!

where is your D graduating from?
