report successes after graduation here!

My son just finished his first year at Penn State, and has just accepted a part in the national tour of Spring Awakening to start in September. I am nervous about his taking a year off from school (among other worries). Does anyone have any practical advice (I guess for me, since he doesn’t seem to have any concerns! Of course, I’m very proud and happy for him at the same time. Thanks.

Wow! Jimsmom, Congratulations!!! There is another mom whose son (Elon) just finished the last Spring Awakening National tour, I don’t know her CC name but I bet soozievt knows. Sooo exciting for your family! Congrats!!!

Jasmom, How long did your son have to wait to hear? oh and CONGRATS!!!

hushinfazen, I think the current SA tour castmember you’re referring to used to post here himself, not the mom, unless there’s another who I have missed.

Jimsmom, has your son signed his contract yet? If not, send me an email and I can provide some useful and practical information about salary/per diem, etc. I know several kids who have left school early for non-Eq tours through the years. Some of them have returned at some point to complete their degrees (usually these are the students who are strong academically) but many never have, which is a shame. If he’d like some comments on what non-Eq tours are like, have him email me. Click on my username and in the dropdown menu, you can send an email and then I can send you my email address (we can’t post them here) and he can get in touch. Congratulations to him!

Jimsmom, How exciting! Penn State will be around for a long time and they’ll be sure to welcome him back at the end of the tour. It’s thrilling news! Any parent would have some concerns, but the opportunity sounds just wonderful! Congratulations.
And thank you, hush. My s auditioned (and was “approved for the show” over 1 1/2 years ago).

Two of Boston Conservatory’s 2010 graduates were just cast as well! Good luck and congratulations!

Also in the Spring Awakening non-equity tour: two soon to be Elon grads playing Melchior and Ilse and two ensemble members (one grad and one soon to be). The Elon - Spring Awakening connection continues.

My daughter has a friend who just got cast and I think rehearsals start in September in New York.

Thanks, everyone for your congrats. It is exciting! My S says he will return to PSU after the 1 year, so I hope he sticks with that promise. I know it will be a good experience for him, if not exhausting. Alwaysamom, I will e-mail you.

About an earlier post on Spring Awakening - 2 Elon young men were in the equity tour that is ending this month. My son’s close friends are the 4 in the new non-equity tour! Elon seniors are rocking! Many have lined up great summer work, another good friend is in the new Fiddler on the Roof tour, and my son has been cast as Mike in the new national tour of A Chorus Line! A girl in his class is also in the ACL tour - cut dancers and understudy group. He and friends are graduating from Elon with MFA in MT on May 22! What a great way to start out!

Yay for Eric! My D saw him (from a distance) at UPTAs and said he was a great dancer. ACL is one of my all-time favorites.

Congrats to all those Elonites. And a special cheer to Ericsmom.

Ericsmom – two of my D’s classmates from Syracuse will be joining your son in ACL – sounds like it’s going to be a great tour!

A JMU alum (class of '09) will be joining the Chorus Line bunch as well!

Great to see so many young performers working even in the still sluggish economy. :)

Congratulations to all the young performers. I hope the tours will be coming out west so I’ll get a chance to see your kids!

Ericsmom, did you mean that your son and his friends are graduating with a BFA or did you mean to say with an MFA? Just clarifying …

So excited to see Chorus Line. It is coming to our city in the Fall. I love looking at the bio’s to see what schools the performers attended.

Ha Ha - of course it’s a BFA in MT - I guess I got ahead of myself with the M’s! Elon doesn’t have an MFA that I know of! I think it’s too late to edit that post!

It sounds like the young performers are coming from many different programs for ACL. They will have a blast! I haven’t seen the list of cities yet - can’t wait! Purple - where are you?

Thanks about his dance, musicmom! He has worked very hard. He got a number of offers from UPTA that he ended up turning down. He was hoping for something big, and he got it! In the meantime, he’s also doing a show at North Carolina Theatre this summer.

Ericsmom, do you know if Taylor is still planning on returning to Elon in the fall to complete his degree?

I’m not sure what Taylor’s plans are. The equity tour of SA will be over this month, though, so he will have to move on.
